DROxINxTHExWIND: palelizard: If we put poor people to work in the grain fields, they'd get enough exercise and be thin again. Hundreds of years ago, they had it right--lots of people toiling away if they couldn't afford to do otherwise. And their diet contained much less meat and fat, and a lot more grain, so their teeth were better and they had fewer heart problems.Serfdom may not have been all shakes and giggles, but at least the poor people didn't complain about being fat.I take it you've never seen a life expectancy chart. Hell, lets expand on your point and do it like they did in the days of George Washington. A man could live to the ripe old age of 42.
tlars699: Satan's Bunny Slippers: JohnAnnArbor: There's Always A Bloody Ghost: This is all very well and fine, but when you're poor, fresh fruits and vegetables are either not available in your neighbourhood, or they are too expensive. When you have hungry mouths to feed, you're going to go for the most food for the least amount of money. What really needs to change is to have more real, budget grocery stores or produce sellers in poor neighbourhoods and less 711s and fast food joints.Getting held up, rampant theft, etc. makes a low-margin business like grocery stores even more difficult to run. There's a reason Detroit has few grocery stores (two opened to great fanfare recently). On top of that, charge more than a suburban market? Racist! Detain a shoplifter? Racist! And on and on. It's easier to close the store and do business elsewhere.Don't forget dry asparagus.Schnuks schnuks schnuks
DROxINxTHExWIND: For several years, many have been quick to attribute rising fast-food consumption as the major factor causing rapid increases in childhood obesity. However a new study found that fast-food consumption is simply a byproduct of a much bigger problem: poor all-day-long dietary habits that originate in children's homes. This study funded by McDonalds, Wendy's, Roy Rogers, Arbys, Burger King, etc...Lets take the focus off of the bullshiat that we're feeding you and point fingers at you because our business is starting to suffer from all of this healthy talk about moderation and eliminating fast food from the diet.
