Are they putting cancer patients on the ISS now?

Seriously, the call out headlines looking for the same preditable response weren't that interesting before.  Less so now.

Actually this would be useful in special effects make-up too because you wouldn't have to have the actor sit for hours to make a mould of their face.

Also useful for making sex toys moulded from porn star genitals. Should be able to put together a 3D model just by capturing enough frames from a porn movie too.

zarberg: What about 3D Printed tabletop gaming miniatures?

wow.

not as good as Warhammer, but pretty nice.

Just gave a presentation to NASA about a theoretical Martian habitat which included a 3D printer, so I'm getting a kick out of these replies.

Printing skin cells on burn victims is just a fantasy.

Luddite space nutters who are probably fat middle aged men who can't get it up without pills who think 3D printers on Mars will make space travel possible and college girls sleep with them!!!!

I used a 3D printed enclosure to get regulatory approval on a product last month.  Didn't have production plastic in time for UL/CB Scheme testing.

For some reason subby's headline reminded me of this (PC Magazine?) quote:  ~"The 486 is such a powerful CPU, it may never see desktop use."

I was guessing that they just printed a bong to use for marijuana therapy

I'm glad to see they're finally getting around to a more user-friendly UI.  The historical minis folks have been complaining about that for a while.  Shapeways has been a godsend but it's got its issues.

3D printing Lego in my basement workshop. Cheaper than actual Lego.

>>What about 3D Printed tabletop gaming miniatures?<<

Well, since our resident sane man is gone, it's apparently up to me to fill the void.

As you may notice in the description, it's not exactly a working thing. It's a kickstarter for the idea, with the hope that future development in 3D printing and materials will allow them to get from current choice of "somewhat nice details, but VERY brittle" and "strong, but ugly and rough and hard to paint" into something that is actually usable.

That said, 3D printing is nicely developing, and will soon (as in 20 year-ish) be good enough for custom toys.

P.S. I hope there will be a manned spaceflight thread soon. Someone has to be a black knight.

Enough with the tribute threads. Please.

Ooooo. Never thought about that. Or environments. I just print single use paper-walled ones from the web, but manufacturing solid ones on demand would be awesome.

Consumer 3d printing is a solution in search of a problem. Otherwise it is just additive manufacturing and nothing special except for being a popscience buzzword.

Good point... I like that.

I also like that they're basically right next door to being able to print human cells...

It's am awesome technology with almost limitless possibilities.

Look I hated QA about as much as the next space nutter, but come on. I'd rather we just moved past that chapter of Fark history and be glad we're rid of him.

ENOUGH.
