(Talking Points Memo)   How bad are things for Christie now? Head of NJ Senate is now publicly disavowing the fist-bump he gave Christie before the Governor's State of the State address saying he only "bumped' because he was too sick to shake hands   (talkingpointsmemo.com) divider line 42

I would like to further Clarify that my fist-bump was not meant to imply bro-like status in my relationship with Mr. Christie nor approval of his policies and at no time during the bump did I utter the phrase "duuudee" uni an admiring fashion, My bump was merely a "bump of convenience" owing to the excess amount of phlegm  present on my hands at that time as I had just had to sneeze and was unable to locate a handkerchief in time.   and further...

Considering Sweeney has stood in the way of several of Christie's plans (he's the Democrat that refused to bring some of Christie's judge nominations to a vote, for example), I'm somewhat confused as to why he feels the need to disavow this.

Don't give Christy's top aides any ideas for things they can do without him knowing.

Time to take your pick now, guys. We will have a republican president in 2016.

Cruz or Christie?

Maybe it was.  Do we know who the target was definitively?  It wasn't necessarily the person who complained about it.

It's possible, but even more confusing if so. Sweeney's district is the southwest corner of the state. You literally could not get further from the GWB without leaving NJ, except maybe Cape May.

I don't think it really matters at this point.  I was clearly done as retribution of some sort.  As far as I'm concerned there is no way Christie did not order it and was not aware of it.

He certainly knew about it.  I have no doubt those sycophants wanted credit from their master the first chance they got.  He probably asked for retribution but he might have told them to be creative and keep his plausibility of denial intact.

All of them. But they will set end dates that will fall in the next D president's term, so he can take credit for ending them.

Look like its time for some traffic problems in West Deptford (Sweeney's home town).  Actually, it's on the Delaware River, so Christie can just do a belly flop and tsunami the whole town.

Why do politicians fumble through attempts to distance themselves like this?  Just say, publicly, "We were friends, I didn't think he'd go that far but now that he did he has to pay the price."

Problem solved.

Yeah, it's not like they talked about it nonstop for months on end or anything. And the biggest cable network STILL talks about it constantly, despite being unable to say exactly what exactly the "scandal" WAS.

But that chicken was just asking for it, right?

I don't know. This ranks pretty low on the "political retribution" scale. It is state politics, it has a long history of dirty tricks in every state in the country. What is amazing is that the national Dems are really seeming scared of him so far out from 2016.

I have read bits, yes, but enlighten me as to how it's a 'scandal' now. Remember: Republicans refused to increase the diplomatic security budget, and consulates are not, traditionally, high on security anyway compared to, say, embassies.

Notice shortly after I pointed out how it confused me even more than the mayor, specifically because he was so far away?

I would go with the attention one. There's been a rumor he's aiming for Governor in 2017. And if you want to put on your tinfoil hat, if both Christie and the Lt Gov(I forget her name) are removed from office,  the President of the Senate(Sweeney) becomes Gov.
