Tannhauser: If 15 isn't a mob what is it? A klatch, a coven, a gathering?

Since it's Canuckistan, you have to use the metric system. The correct answer is 5 John Candys.

That's a shame. She so goddarn cute that I'd like her to be more famouser.

Instead, we keep getting this Lady Gaga and Katy Perry shiat.

Hendrix only had one track in the Top 10: his cover of Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower." That makes Hendrix, technically, a one hit wonder.

I'm starting to think this is Toronto's fault.  They're out of control with their wacky mayor and other antics that have been going on lately.  Christ, even their hockey team won last night.  Get yourselves in line, Toronto!

Zero top 40 under the name Garth Brooks. He did have a top 40 hit as Chris Gaines.

2014-01-15 10:59:46 AM
She'll be cashing checks off that one song for years to come. If we assume (for the sake of discussion) that she's interested in having a semi-normal life, fading into obscurity at this point might be a good plan.

Fifteen minutes or no, she's had a hell of ride. She's talented, driven and cute as a button. She'll do fine.

Garth Brooks is a one-hit wonder in the same sense that Rush is a one-hit wonder--their only top-40 hit in the US was "New World Man", IIRC.

In other words, a "one hit wonder" with millions of albums sold and mountains of concert revenue.

Zero on the top 40 pop charts. On the country charts, he had several hits.

Using your metric, 2Pac, Judas Priest, Johnny Cash, and Metallica all had less than 3 hits.

If you're going by the strict definition of Top 40 Billboard charts, which is a bit useless for genre artists. Never mind that this rules out the usual double whammy where artists that are generally seen as OHW release another song that's almost identical to their first hit.

I like the way Wikipedia does it, they go by that definition but highlight artists that had genre success, cult artists, have more success in their home countries or fared better solo, in their main group or in other groups. Which includes acts like Devo, Garth Brooks and Rush.

2014-01-15 11:12:41 AM
I was merely pointing out that calling Jepsen a one hit wonder isn't the Romeroesque insult that it was intended to be.

That makes sense, I never new A-ha had more than Take On Me as a hit until I visited Europe. Plus there is Australia, South America and every other area of the planet with their own music that doesn't break in to NA.

I like how mhd put it. I always thought of one hit wonders as an act that releases one hit song and then fades away into obscurity. I'm obviously biased though as I'm a fan of his covers and originals.

She's a pop star, and thus unlikely to put out something that could top the country or hip-hop charts.

I think she's cute, and she could be the nicest and most intelligent woman on the face of the earth for all I know, but I hated that goddamn earworm hit of hers from day one so much that I couldn't even hate-wank it to her if I tried.

Well... The problem was that they were hitting the tea shops, real big draws for her key demographics of little old ladies and lesbians.

And those aren't cheekbones, they're proto-jowls. Save your pennies and learn to work out of the spotlight.

You realize most people who actually write teeny bopper songs are her age or older, right? Sure, you have the Taylor Swifts of the world, but those are the exception these days, not the rule.

Nowadays, in pop music, folks in their teens or early 20s rarely write their own material. It's usually written or co-written by someone else.

Yeah. Brooks is  one of the best selling artists everand has a mountain of awards.

And listening to him live is no different, and sometimes better, than the album version. He actually has talent.

If you hear a song a hundred times while recording and then have to play it once a night for two years straight, I can see getting sick of it.

Of course, I read that he was a huge 70s hard rock fan, but sadly for him, KISS isn't in the market for a pudgy singer with a thick Southern accent.
