In defense of the cops, they probably thought they were just brutalizing a regular black person and didn't realize he was deaf.

I think it should be drilled into cops that if someone is not cooperating (and is non-violent) they should go through a checklist to see if that person is physically impaired (blind/deaf) or possibly suffering from a diabetic shock or something. You hear too many of these stories where cops knee-jerk that the person not listening to them starts to get a beatdown. I know that it's probably a small statistic, but I'm sure it would probably avoid situations like this.

Oh, he's black.  Who would have guessed that.  I'm whiter than sour cream and I can't stand the police, I can't even imagine how a black man feels in this country.

This. Seriously. And I'm no ITG, and I have no criminal record and I've never done anything illegal but I'm also sick to death of what is happening with cops in this country and I don't see any reason to be sad when that rare one gets some comeuppance any more than I see reason to cry about a violent end to a mobster. It's the life they chose and they almost certainly had it coming.

Your mistake here is assuming that the police are trying to AVOID beatdowns.  From what I can gather over the last couple of threads, they're fairly chomping at the bit to beat the crap out of people.

The deaf person should be more understanding of the police officer's learning disabilities and profound lack of empathy.

See the post just below yours.  Why?  It's now legal according to a jury in California.

Once a state cop in Arizona threw me on the hood and jammed his .357 into the back of my neck because I not only didn't immediately comply but also stepped forward with my hands in the air to say "What?"

mciann: Folks, it's not rocket science.  When a cop makes a stop, comply.  The details can be worked out later in a court of law.  But when a cop is just trying to do their job, comply with their instructions.

Exactly now I just need you to █████████   █████.

WHY ARE YOU NOT COMPLYING?  *zzzzzzzttttt*

No this is wrong. Prejudice exists so we can judge others without having to waste any time speaking with them.

fark the police. It's damn near time for local militias or the army to step in to protect the people from the police.

Cops are farking trash these days. Even the "good" ones are only just not openly hostile at that moment. Once it's a matter of taking the side of what's right or taking the side of their brothers-in-blue they will turn on you, too, and lie in court about it later.

"NewsChannel 4 learned on Tuesday the two Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers involved, Eric Foster and Kelton Hayes, have been suspended with pay while the investigation into this incident continues."

What other occupation where beating the shiat out of, or shooting someone results in a paid vacation? Charges against the cops dismissed/acquittal in 3... 2...

I'm not a cop hater. I know a couple that are genuinely good guys. These are not these kinda guys, though.

nyrB: Maybe I'm missing something, but how is it legal for "profoundly deaf" people to drive?   How can they react to various things like cars beeping because they're drifting into the wrong lane or an emergency vehicle's siren?  It seems to me it would be the equivalent of a person driving with noise-cancelling headphones on, which I'm pretty sure isn't kosher.

Deaf drivers can get devices that let them know when an emergency vehicle is approaching or if someone is honking. But honestly, it's not needed. Using your eyes is enough for driving.

labman: I had a friend who was deaf in one ear and had only 20% hearing in the other ear who got pulled over for speeding.  Naturally, his deaf ear faced the window so when the cop came up and was talking to him, he was trying to use his hand to block the cops flashlight so he could read his lips.  the cop kept saying put down your hands, but then he didn't know what he was saying.

Eventually, the cop got frustrated and was like "What are you, Deaf?" really loud.  That he heard, so he turned his head and pointed to his hearing aid in the other ear and said "YES."

The cop got this really sheepish look and just gave him a warning.

Maybe if he would have said "I'm deaf", when the cop walked up it all would have gone smoother.....

I take it you didn't know that you're not supposed to step out of your car until the cop tells you to do so and instead you attempted to provoke him because only a complete moron would think that your actions as described was not an attempt at provoking an aggressive situation.

So you provoked an aggressive, Type A authoritarian by bowing up to them, and were surprised at the fact they acted like an aggressive, Type A Authoritarian would.
