(YouTube) Video You'd think it impossible to desecrate a disposable disco hit like "Funky Town" by Lipps Inc. With a cover by an 80s keytar band and a video featuring an out-of-place drummer, it certainly was possible ... in the 80s   (youtube.com) divider line 35

It went on about three minutes too long, but otherwise was a pretty good cover.

Oh this made my lil' 80s heart swoon. Not because I like Pseudo Echo or anything, but because of the synth pop. Oh I miss
that :) Thompson Twins, Psychadelic Furs, Depeche Mode, Aha, PSB, etc...

Also it wasn't a half bad cover. They sound like a non english speaking band that learned the song phonetically though.

/ I sailed away to China on a little row boat to find ya...

Did anyone else notice that they were basically lip synching and not really playing the instruments?

/Musician, fingers and notes and handstrokes were not quite matching up

I don't care what anyone says, that cover has been a major favorite of mine since the day it was new.  I also loved the original

And not as old as most videos on Fark.
I approve.

You're hard pressed to find a music videos that people aren't lip synching to their own songs because they normally just dub in the albums audio track during post production.

I feel the '80s need some redemption.

I'd assume it refers to his 'Hair Band' looks, and needlessly huge triple bass drum 'Monsters of Rock' drum Kit..

Was good.  Would probably have liked in back in the day.  Interesting guitar too...Stratocaster Elite.  I don't see them often

This band screams "Manager-imposed change of musical direction", like a chapter in Spinal Tap's career they forgot to document or something.

I know, right? Mentioning them at all in a thread a about 'Funkytown' is questionable to start with.

Other than Send me an Angel that looks alot like the 80's folder on my comp. Plus lots of Canadian 80's stuff. And hair metal.

The video was for the single.  This is a remix version, so whoever put this together had to reuse some stuff.

Liked this when it came out, and it's still a fun little song.

No subby I would not think it impossible.  There are some song that are really a moment.  The musician, sound, and feel combine to make that moment and once it is passed it cannot be replaced.  It need not be a great song for this to happen.  Mind you I do not think this is one of them, that was a pretty good cover IMHO.

Now Bee Gees "How deep is your love?"  That's a moment.  Not a bad moment, not a great moment (although I don't mind hearing the original once a year or so) but a moment.  And yet people keep covering it.  And one of those covers seems to be on a daily loop in my the elevator lobby and restrooms.  And it is a lousy cover.

//Damn it cue up some Rammstein to clear the remnants.

Then I remembered this gem from the Friday the 13th part 5 soundtrack....
