Now that's being musically clueless.

Granted, local radio stations around here in St. Louis have about 3 Judas Priest songs in their libraries, pretty weak, considering they've been making music for 40 years.

It took me several reads to realize you meant the radio station and not Judas Priest, and I'll be damned if I could figure out what the hell tone you were trying to carry. Way too early.

I'd be happy to have three songs in rotation from a lot of bands.  Iron Maiden being a prime example.

I find that most rock stations have a library of about 200 songs. At work we have the local rock station on and we take bets on when the first tom petty song will come on. A few weeks ago they had a petty trifecta during my shift

I can't even listen to our local rock station. Every time I turn it on, it's like "God, not that song again!"

It's one thing to play Zeppelin, Skynryd, Eagles, etc. as part of your format, but it's always the same few songs every time! They do "two-fer Tuesdays" and "three-fer Thursdays" every week, and it's always the same songs grouped together every single time.

If I hear "Heartache Tonight" again, I'm likely to take hostages...

It's been that was for 30yrs or more.  The same half dozen or so songs by the Stones, the same from Pink Floyd, the same from Creedance, etc.  And let's not even start on Boston.  For me it's The Joker....I can't reach the button fast enough when it starts.

My absolute most hated song ever is Bob Seger "Old Time Rock And Roll". I want to go all "Elvis And The TV" on my radio every time I comes on.

My thing is that I'm in pushing 50 and I remember all these songs when they were NEW! Here it is over forty years later and they're still in heavy rotation! Who wouldn't be sick of these songs by now?

What also sucks is that there is good music from the "classic rock era" that was just as good, or better, than what the radio plays over and over that gets totally missed. I used to like XM's "Deep Tracks" because that's how I remember rock radio...playing album cuts and music you didn't hear all the time.

What really killed radio was when it became corporate. The industry isn't run by broadcasters anymore, it's run by business people who see it as a cash cow. Management hires consultants to do all the programming because it's easier to follow a plan than make one of your own. Less thinking, more revenue. Unless you're a sales droid, radio people are paid a pittance for their work, too.

/16 years in that wretched business...don't miss it one bit.

Classic rock stations will even rotate the same 3 Led Zeppelin songs for what seems like weeks even though they probably have at least a dozen that could be considered classic rock staples. My coworker listens to the aforementioned KSHE and I'm hearing All of My Love every single day, why? Is it laziness or is there actually some complicated data research that suggest people want to hear the same 3 Led Zeppelin songs for weeks at a time, and then another 3 for weeks at at time...

Are you kidding me? If they have have another Sunday Heavy Metal thread just peek around for a bit. You'll get the standard "This sucks", the "This cookie monster shiat needs to stop" followed shortly by "Derp derp what else are you going to use with aggressive music, Celine Dion?" because apparently there's no range in between. As someone else said, they're as bad as any Trek or Doctor Who fan with their pedantry.

Yes, there is some reason behind it... I have a friend who is chief enginerr at a company that owns about 5 stations, and I asked him the same thing a few years back. He says that it is on purpose, and they will make a list of 'X' number of songs, rotate those for a week or two, just playing the list in pretty much the same order over and over, and then swap in a new list. I hear it on my Sirius radio, too, they will feature some song you've never heard before, you'll hear it once a day if you listen a to like I do, then you'll never hear it ever again.

it also might help with keeping royalties straight. Drives me nucking futz though.

It's not some marketing thing... Judas Priest doesn't need it, and appearing on The Simpsons is enough for the bump they might have needed. Seriously, if they'd had an issue with it, they'd have said it when they appeared, it's not like the script is kept secret from the performers. If they don't care, why do these whiny shiats care?

common slam/joke from russ martin about his station (kegl 97.1 dallas, clear channel) about one of his favorite bands...he'll go on about the number of studio albums, hits, number of decades, etc, for the band AC/DC...and end with the fact that kegl has 6 AC/DC songs in its catalog!

I've heard some differing opinions on his new band. The biggest complaint I've seen is that Phil's voice is blown out from all his years of his style of singing and that he sounds like shiat live.

Nah, Browncoats aren't worse because there aren't details to remember and arguments over whether something counts as canon in the show or not.

True on the Browncoats as the series did not last long and there are straight forward cannon. Baybe substitute Browncoats for Star Wars fanatics and maybe there is a really good argument backed up by an earlier thread about Disney undoing the EU.

And I know several WoW players who get pissed if I missed the "perfect" heal to get them back to 100% health and they end up with 95% health. But by far the worse hardcorers of any genre I have witnessed are the CoD players. I have been threaten because I am not a 5th prestige level 50 player with all weapons unlocked.
