It was a great show, one of the best HBO has premiered in years, and I'm very much looking forward to the rest of it. But if I had to choose between it and the upcoming season of Game of Thrones, well, that's not enough a decision I'd have to think about.

I officially have a man crush on Matthew McConaughey. I even learned how to spell his last name.

I couldn't tear myself away from the damn thing.  Then I watched it again.

This is not like me.

I'm just glad he's not trapped in chick flick purgatory with Kate Hudson.

This will be the series of the year.

Hopefully HBO decided to do something like this right and make it a one off run like BoB or TP.

They're doing it like American Horror Story, self-contained every season.

Really? I thought this was the only season and that they weren't planning any more.

That could work, but they'd have to completely shake up. New locale, new actors, new story. And whoever that art director is HAS to be involved. The art is going to take this show over the top.

It's on my dvr and I haven't watched yet, but I'm guessing the ratings might have something to do with dem titties.

Well they haven't got a greenlight for Season Two but I expect that will be a no-brainer soon. They say it will have different casts though, unlike AHS, but no way are Woody and McConaughey signing up for years on TV.

On mine as well, somehow I'd missed the buzz on this and didn't record the premier, so I DVRed a repeat that came on in the middle of the night last night.

I'm glad to hear it's good, I was bummed that Treme ended.  I think it could have been more popular if they'd kept John Goodman's character around.

And the structure of the show, with the present/past blending, makes it seem like it would be really hard to have a compelling storyline with them both in it anyway. And since I think it's their dynamic that's half the show's power, I'm not sure that going for a season 2 is a good idea.

You saw her for all of 10 seconds in the first episode.

I'm a fan too, but I'm very much getting the vibe that she's just going to be comfort trim in this one. Little bit of dirtying up one of the leads as well to make things more edgy.

But we get to see her tits, there is that.

Just turned on the DVR for tonight's Justified.

"You're right, this sounds fantastic."

We'll see if this season is as good as True Detective.

Yeah I know I'm sucked in for this year already. No telling what might happen in future seasons but it certainly won't be the same show.

Plus it's got some great Wire alums, Lester Freeman and Brother Mouszone, who I'm always happy to see get work. That reminds me, good to see Lance Reddick back in action as Papa Legba on AHS last week too. Love me some Wire alums.

Woody addressed that problem in the premiere:

It was fun watching True Detective and Killer Joe on the same night. I probably should have watched Frailty after for the trifecta.

She is the solitary thing that was tolerable in Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D. Those eyes + those boobies = well I don't have the words. Imagine a cartoon wolf's heart beating out of his chest, his eyes bugging out of his head and his erection jumping off of his body, growing little arms and starting to DJ phat beats in a club.....something like that.

Good to see the Alexandra Daddario angle has been covered. I had zero interest in this until I found out she was nekkid in it. The show just didn't feel like my kind of thing, but she is my kind of thing, sooooo...

I watched that wretched Texas Chainsaw 3D twice just for her. The logical gymnastics that they went through (and sometimes didn't even bother with) to constantly get her as close to topless as possible without breaching her No Nudity clause was hilarious.

I wonder if she and Matthew McConaughey passed their time on the set arguing over who was in the worse Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel?

One idea I heard for next year was do the same series but have Harrelson and McConeghey switch roles.

Didn't think it possible, but Shameless is going to have to be tivo'd.

I watched the damned thing twice last night and probably would have done it three times if I had the chance.

Was it just me, or did young McBongo look especially weird? Was ist just the disconnect between how he looked there and how I know he actually looked like in the mid-90s, or was there some Uncanny Valley makeup/CGI in play?

Can't wait for next week.

Very intense, dark, and interesting. It was a heavy watch, but compelling. The way they turned back the clock of aging on these 2 is pretty amazing too.
However the most important element, the story, well so far so good. Not big into cop shows, but this deserves to be watched.

I hope they go through this story to completion and do not drag it out if it is successful. Allow it to be a complete story then figure out how to make the next move. If they can do the American Horror Story style that would be very cool, instead of the Boardwalk Empire, where they tack on the next story to keep the beast feeding. Complete story, in one season run then if they get the draw, write a new story. Its freaking good.

Balancing the hardcore feel of this with Lilyhammer for levity...   also a brilliant show, but not on HBO...

(Responding to the negative reviews for Jaws: The Revenge) 'I haven't the film, but by all accounts it's awful. I have seen the house it bought, however, and it's spectacular!' - Michael Caine

Actors pretty much just want to act, they don't care what they're acting in.

Ive never seen McConaughey play a role like that.  He freaking nailed it too.  Wonder what took him so long to actually start trying to act instead of playing a character of himself.  Guess money for rom-coms will do that.  Cant wait for the future episodes.

Residual weight loss (he did the Christian Bale/"The Machinist" thing for his role in "Dallas Buyers Club". Then he went right into this role.

And yes, based on the first ep, I'll be DVRing the entire season and then watching it in a marathon (my preferred viewing method for episodic TV.)

I said this in yesterday's McConaughey thread, but what the hell. Two excellent movies he was in last year were Mud and Killer Joe.
