What's that song by Ice-T again?

So the woman will be facing multiple counts of attempted murder (the passengers in the car could have died in the accident), jaywalking, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, and damage to government property.

**Time out**

Before we jump all over this cop, we don't know if the lady ran out from between two cars..stepped off a curb into traffic, etc.

That being said, there is a real problem in our society of cops thinking they are above the law and other cops/politicians let them get away with it.

**time in**

Well it's not like they're not earning it. Beat a man to death and then try to argue it wasn't their fault. Yeah, no.

That being said, there is a real problem in our society of cops thinking they are above the law and other cops/politicians let them get away with it.
Perhaps it comes from the fact that they are.

Just like in all police states.

2014-01-14 08:59:48 PM
The police are there to serve and protect.  They are trained in the ways of deadly weapons and are skilled operators of the vehicles they drive.  This was obviously an accident and possibly the fault of the woman who flouted one pedestrian rule or the other.  The next time one of you anti-cop types start howling "police brutality" merely because a civilian was injured by a police officer doing his or her duty, consider how you would feel about having a police officer show up while you were being held up at gunpoint by a thug.

Naw.  The decision emboldened all LEOs - it created a climate where egregious behavior is permitted by all cops.  Geography is irrelevant.

But really, cops too many are behaving badly and it is not limited to just one place.   Sure they did not mean to hit this poor lady.  But fact is, in most instances when a civilian hits a pedestrian the fault is that of the driver and there are repercussions.  Also, most times if a citizen beats or shoots some one to death there are repercussions.  But all too often there are no repercussions for LEO - and that's not right.

2014-01-14 09:11:01 PM
So what's the problem?  Now everyone can experience what it was like to be a Jew in Nazi Germany.

Painting all cops, all black people, or all Jewish people with the same brush is pretty much the definition of stereotyping. But you wouldn't understand that. People from Seattle are too stupid to understand that.

No, feel free to smear LA cops for LA crimes.  I was raised less than three miles from where Kelly was beaten and was shown photos of his injuries in a pub down there before he even died.  Leave us our hometown shame.

At this point I'd rather take my chances with the bogeyman home invader than the much more likely scenario of running into another cop behaving like a thuggish dick.

You just read an article about a 60 year old woman getting hit by a car owned and in use by a government employee, and that's what you chose to post. Guess what, nobody gives a fark what part of shiatafornia the story takes place in. It's just another example of how farked you are as a populace to add the the pile that tipped over under it's own weight sometime during the late 1990's.

And the Las Vegas Strip is not in Las Vegas.

Garcetti was in the car, speaking on the phone, when the accident occurred

I was about to be all "fark this guy", but then I realized rich people don't drive their own cars, so it was probably more a garden-variety traffic accident (which can happen to anybody) rather than negligence of the "driver on a cell phone" magnitude.

Also, I'm hardly the greatest defender of the cops when they fark-up, but c'mon, traffic accidents are genuinely accidental usually, and don't really represent any kind of abuse of authority.  Plus most random assholes that accidentally clipped a pedestrian would have pretty much the same penalty-- their insurance would pay out for the pedestrian's medical care and the driver would feel really bad about it.  It's not like we arrest someone at the scene of every collision in the US.

2014-01-14 09:32:54 PM
More like the driver for the Mayor of L.A. (with the Mayor in the car) was driving around like he owned the place (or at least the guy in the back seat did).

This wasn't some random patrol car.

I would feel shocked and amazed!

Then again, he would probably write a traffic ticket and then go bust someone for pot possession, leaving me to hand over my valuables. But the feeling of awe would never leave me.
