They hate the word "recall," unlike other car companies, I suppose.

My mom's C-Max was recalled. Clearly hybrids are a massive failure and we should stick to pure gasoline engines.

Well, only if by recall, you mean "over the air software update".

They hate the word "recall" because it was an issue fixed by an over the air software update.

I guess X was higher than the cost of a recall.

Nissan's current recall is fixed via a sticker sent through the mail.

Musk just needs to man up and accept that Tesla had a recall.  No biggie.  There will be others.

OH NOES. They are going to update your firmware over the internets and googles!

It sounds like they recalled the chargers and not the cars themselves, but that is splitting hairs a bit.

Still, recalls happen with every make and nearly every model of automobile.

Not even.

You know, like how Microsoft recalls your operating system on the second Tuesday of every month...

It sounds like the software update is the quick fix, and they're also sending out new adapters to replace the potentially faulty ones.

That's not a crack against Tesla, It's the stand-up move to make, and their customers should be happy.

Modern cars are complex, problems can arise that weren't expected during design and production, recalls are nothing to be afraid of, it's the company admitting a mistake and fixing it instead of trying to brush it under the rug.

Except that this is actually, you know, a recall, initiated by Tesla.  Tesla is sending out a "Recall" Service Bulletin to the owners to let them know what's going on.

"While the number of incidents remains small, and Tesla's review to date points to
the building receptacle or wiring as the primary cause of failed NEMA 14-50 adapters, the
Company has determined that a voluntary recall is appropriate as a precautionary measure."

Since I've already mentioned the Nissan recall above that is simply a sticker sent in the mail, I'll now mention that the recall for the GM trucks (risk of fire!) is, gasp, a *software update*.  Nothing more, or less.

True.  I think he's a little oversensitive since everyone blows everything out of proportion with Tesla.  The willfully ignorant and the FUD peddlers will be throwing this shiat back at us for years, no matter how benign it really is.

A recall is when the cars are 'recalled' back to a dealer who performs work on them. This isn't a recall, it's a soft/firmware update.  Words mean things.

There probably will be a recall of some type I'm sure, but it is possible there wont be because of the very straight forward way the drive train works.  There's just not as many places for gremlins to hide like with an ICE + tranny.

Car dealerships LOVE recalls. They bring the car into the shop to find (or create) (or make up) other non-recall related problems to fix.

Musk kind of brings a lot of that on himself, with his holier than thou attitude.  People just naturally want to take him down a peg.  His referring to a major new tech push across the entire automotive sector as "Bullshiat" was also a little out of proportion, so he's not without his own FUD peddling.

The Musk lotion brigade is always at the ready for any hint of negativity toward Tesla.

I'll grant you that he's not very diplomatic.  On the other hand, fuel cell vehicles ARE bullshiat.

Congrats on Tesla's first recall.  Sorry you're taking it personally.

Recall= Software Update

When you get news of electric cars copy-pastad by Detroit Free Press, what you get is more angry conjecture than news.

One thing that I got into on another forum and thus will point out here is that, unlike a lot of other EVs, the 'Chargers' for Teslas are actually IN the car.  You feed the car 120-240V and it worries about converting it to a form suitable for recharging the battery pack.  The 'charger' we're talking about here is actually more of a fancy power cable - it does NO voltage conversion.

Oh, and they're putting a thermal fuse into the 14-50 plug, because the 'fires' in quesiton actually most likely originated in the OUTLET, so the thermal fuse is an attempt to determine that the outlet itself is faulty and getting too hot, and cut the current draw before it starts a fire.  Same with the software update - it attempts to detect current/voltage 'flutter' that may indicate failing wiring upstream.
