I try to be courteous, treat people like I'd want to be treated, am sometimes funny, and try to not let every little thing bother me, so naturally I'm a liberal.

Oh there's a quiz?

63% conservative. Probably right, but I find their methodology completely laughable.

Fusion cuisine or no, that's not what makes me want to try a restaurant. The problem is that most fusion is pretty God awful.
Cats are just objectively better than dogs.
Anyone who thinks we could even conceivably live in a world without borders is insane.
Even most liberals are proud of American history, despite the picture of what Republicans like to paint.
I use Chrome because I'm a web programmer and, frankly, it's just my targeted platform of choice.
Action movies are just easier to watch. It's not like I don't love some great documentaries and go seeking them out.
I think kids should question any authority that's questionable. I'm pretty sure the Tea Party thrives on questioning government authority and they're not liberal.

I "slightly" agreed or disagreed with most of the statements. That made me come out 83% liberal. The only way to come out a moderate, which is what I consider myself, would be to split the answers right down the middle. In other words, someone who slightly agrees with the liberal-leaning answers comes out just as extreme as the person who strongly agrees with them. The test would have made more sense with just three options -- agree, disagree, neither.

I call shenanigans.

Noticed the same thing.  No way all my 'meh's make me that liberal.  I'm a small business owner, Schwarzenegger, Brown, McCain, and Obama voting centrist.

I think a lot of people who call themselves "liberal" because they vote straight ticket Democrat have conservative personalities or tendencies. If I were to extend that to something like a city, I'll use DC as an example. The place is run by so-called liberals and 90% of them vote for the Democratic party whenever they get the chance, but the city is pretty conservative to me. People dress conservatively (even in the summer). You can't legally bring a cooler of beer to the park. Liquor stores close at 10 or 11 pm. Convenience can't sell liquor and can't sell beer after 10 pm. The couple of headshops that were open got raided and intimidated out of business. And just overall, living in the city you get the impression of "conservative."

73% Conservative. Questions did seem a bit shallow though. I lean to the right, but not like those teatards that have fallen off the edge of the spectrum. More moderate than anything.

Fista-Phobia: Keeping your desk "neat" is conservative? Okayy

Yeah that one got me too. Little do they know that the reason I got in the habit of keeping my desk clean was that for years I had a (super libby lib, apparently) cat that would "clean" it for me if there was anything on it.

It's reverse engineering. Of the people surveyed that said that they were very conservative, most of those people said that they keep a neat workspace.

So if you ask people if they keep their workspace clean and they say yes, then chances are they're conservative.

Obviously this isn't going to work every time, just most of the time.

I think for that question I picked moderately agree. I figured that just about every country has farked up shameful things from its past. It's better to be proud of the good things and learn from the bad than cry about the whole lot of it and lower your head in shame.

Must have been the internet browser question.

I tried it again giving what I think the average Fox News watcher would answer (for the browser one, I clicked "Other/I don't know," since I figured the average 80-year-old Fox viewer either doesn't have a computer, doesn't know what a "browser" is, or just clicks the AOL icon on their desktop to get on the internet via their 56K modem), the choice always being "strongly" agree/disagree as would be consistent with a "it's either black or white" view of the world, and got a 100% Conservative score.  This is what it said the responder's "Conservative Qualities" are:

You like dogs more than cats
You prefer action movies to documentaries
You think kids should respect authority
You like a neat desk
You think self-control trumps self-expression
You're not wild about fusion cuisine
You think the government should treat the lives of its citizens as much more valuable than those of other countries
You don't think your partner should be looking at porn alone
You think the world benefits from nations and borders
You prefer Times Square to the Met
You're proud of your country's history

I guess it must've thrown out the browser question since I didn't provide a meaningful response ("I dunno") that time.

I'm thinking that when I took it for real, it knocked my "libbiest lib that ever libbed" score down somewhat because I answered most questions "somewhat" rather than "strongly" agree/disagree, and also because (1) though I like both species, if forced to choose I suppose I like dogs slightly more than cats, (2) I'm somewhat proud of America's history, and (3) in their view, I "think the world benefits from nations and borders" in that I like there being cultural/national differences in the world and think it would be boring if the world was all one big homogeneous country.

I could be getting it backwards, but I believe there was a "study" a while back showing that liberals tended to use Chrome, then Firefox, Safari, etc.  Conservatives tended towards IE.  I have no idea whatsoever it was a valid study or not though.

Well, I think that's why they have the spectrum of strongly agree, moderately agree, slightly agree and etc.. so for instance for that one i put "slightly agree" because while I'm ashamed of my country's history in regards to company towns, farking with various Latin and Caribbean nations, farking with the middle east, slavery, farking up the native Americans and etc - I'm proud on the whole for taking down the nazis, space exploration, the internet, pushing the limits of freedom of speech, contributing so much to the arts, creating massive amounts of wealth and many other things.

When you criticize any part of America's history, you are by default a communist who probably reads news sources that don't specifically endorse 'conservative' canards. Interestingly, modern "values voters" can point to much American history (unions, hippies who actually had a cause, et al), consider it shameful, and then beam with pride as the stars and bars are wrapped around them. But God help you if you mentioned Iraq in 2003.

All I know is that I'm supposed to criticize my government. It's something not entirely unique to but very sexy about America. In some ways not always being proud of my nation makes me a stronger patriot than the assholes who can't let me forget how patriotic they are.

How on earth does understanding that liberal and conservative aren't endpoints on a linear model make me a snowflake? It is idiotic and lazy to lump different philosophies together to create a dichotomy that doesn't exist in reality. I wouldn't be surprised to find that liberals actually are a minority in the Democratic Party.

That's because they're testing authoritarianism. The Republican party is basically the Authoritarian Party at this stage. That's why things like what kind of animal you like or what kind of movie you like  could work for this--our political spectrum is becoming Authoritarians and Everyone Else. That's an inborn thing, not a choice or viable set of ideologies, and that's not actually a good thing.

Yes, some of the questions really didn't have a good answer, like the New York one. If you've been to the Metropolitan Museum, you've done it. It's a "best of" collection. Time Square is also something that has gotten a little dull. On a trip to New York, I wouldn't go to either because there are better things to do.

You're 37% conservative, 63% liberal.

Oh, like hobo fight club. Or doing lines of coke. Or both.

What?

Meh. It's not measuring "conservatism"; it's measuring that curious blend of authoritarianism, nationalism, and anti-intellectualism on the right of US politics these days.

In any other context, I'd be considered mostly conservative. Instead, I'm pushing 70% liberal...simply because I'm not an illiterate pig.

Oh.  Man.  That's precious.  I'm somewhere in the 150-9000% liberal range, but sure, Time, you go with your little test.

The best part is, I knew exactly which questions were going to make me seem conservative as I answered them.  I also especially liked how they give you a variety of "shades of grey" choices, then appear to ignore them during the breakdown.

Also, cats are evil.  Oh, I know, YOUR cat isn't.  Your cat is loving and likes to be petted and play with you.  Guess what?  Your cat acts like a dog.  GET A DOG.

You're 4% conservative, 96% liberal.

Liberal qualities
You prefer documentaries over action movies
You think kids should question authority
You have a messy desk
You think self-expression trumps self-control
You like fusion cuisine
You think the government should treat the lives of its citizens as equal to those of other countries
You think it's okay for your partner to look at porn alone
You use a modern browser
You wish there were no countries
You prefer the Met to Times Square
You're not completely proud of your country's history

Conservative qualities:
You like dogs more than cats

Seriously? I love dogs and cats equally, but there was no "neutral" option for this.  I thought a few of the questions were pretty stupid, and even if this managed to be correct it was purely by accident.

You prefer documentaries over action movies......true
You think kids should question authority.....Later in life when they  have the education to do so.  When they are young, following rules keeps 'em alive.   DON"T trust all adults however
You have a messy desk....true.Consider it proof I'm too damned busy to be constantly straightening it out
You think self-expression trumps self-control.Maybe the rest of the world doesn't want to hear your opinion. Have some self control and take a few to get to know your audience first.
You like fusion cuisine...true.Worth a try like most new things are.
You think the government should treat the lives of its citizens as equal to those of other countries.I think we need to take care of our own first.  All lives are equal otherwise.
You think it's okay for your partner to look at porn alone
Ynot- as long as it doesn't become preferable to being with me
You use a modern browser-first thing I see.  my internet needs are limited
You wish there were no countries.. I'm glad there are.  That is how uniqueness in culture is retained.  A homogenous world would be boring
You prefer the Met to Times Square.... true.  Sometimes quiet time with true genius or inspiration can be quite liberating
You're not completely proud of your country's history- not completely but I'm open to the idea that we have a tendency to judge history by today's current values.  Muscle-t's were pretty gnarly at the time.

Conservative qualities:
You like dogs more than cats....Nope.
Cats are like people- you piss them off and they walk away.  They don't just stare adoringly at you.

You've just spent a few minutes in the mind of a mostly conservative person.  Not as bad as you thought it would be, was it?

2014-01-15 01:23:02 AM
72% conservative, 28% liberal

Liberal qualities

You think kids should question authority.
Question everything, but don't puss out when you hear the answers.

You like fusion cuisine.
Yum.

You think it's okay for your partner to look at porn alone.
Sure, why not. Two way street, right?

You use a modern browser.
Firefox is modern?

You prefer the Met to Times Square.
This is, admittedly, purely speculative.

Conservative qualities

You like dogs more than cats.
Cats are evil.

You prefer action movies to documentaries.
Depends on the documentary, but mostly true.

You like a neat desk.
It counts as neat if I know where everything is.

You think self-control trumps self-expression.
Effective self expression requires both intent and focus.

You think the government should treat the lives of its citizens as much more valuable than those of other countries.
Screw them, we've got ours.

You think the world benefits from nations and borders.
History shows that a lack of borders results in a state of war until borders are established.

You're proud of your country's history.
Light bulbs and internet. 'Nuff said.

2014-01-15 04:18:06 AM
It said I was 72% conservative even though I'd consider myself liberal leaning. I'm skeptical agnostic, anti-drug war, pro-choice (though I feel it's a poor choice), I think post-secondary or trade school should be government subsidized, taxes should be progressive, resource extraction should be state run so that revenues. shiat maybe I'm a socialist?

Sorry, but fusion restaurants usually suck, the combination is never as good as the sources of it's inspiration. Kids who don't respect authority are obnoxious. I have had enough issues with using substances and eating like shiat to respect self-control over self-expression (nobody likes an attention whore). I like the diversity of the world and think it would be pretty boring if it was all homogeneous (no such thing as homogeneous' in Iran). I've never been to New York so I figure I'd probably rather check out the zoo that is Times Square than an art museum. Documentaries are nice and all, but I watch more action/adventure to be sure.

fark cats, too.
