(MLive.com)   Proponents of Michigan's new open-carry gun law say they're loving their new sense of freedom, and they just wish the cops would remember that open carry is now legal and not to stage high-risk takedowns every time there's a gun call   (mlive.com) divider line 509

Mikey1969: rzrwiresunrise: Mikey1969: Me? You're The one with the weak bladder around inanimate objects.

Me: Reasoned argument.

You: You're a 'fraidy cat.

Bravo, sir. You have won this discussion. I bow to your rhetorical prowess and cede the stage to you.

Translation: You're taking your ball and going home... Sorry i made you cry, I hope you'll be Ok.

Men who walk around armed and afraid have no business disparaging other people's balls.

StoPPeRmobile: FlashHarry: what is the point of open carry? is it to show off? is it to make a political point? or is it just to warn other people that you're an asshole?

No shiat, why do cops open-carry?

British police don't want or need firearms. Mainly because they know how to communicate with people and think of themselves as part of the public (no us vs. them mentality). Which means that they have brains to go along with the balls.

demaL-demaL-yeH: Fark It: demaL-demaL-yeH: Muggers want your wallet and jewelry, not your life.

Not true, and even if it was, so what?  Why are you obligated to be a victim, to not fight back?  Why is the only one obligated to fear for his or her life the victim?

We have some experience with concealed carry around crazy people off their meds here in Tucson. Drawing a firearm was considered at the time, but rejected - thank God - by the concealed carrier

Or thank the concealed carrier, not your imaginary friend.

Gangs have specific geographic territories and boundaries. Either stay out of those areas,

Let the gangs control you.

or gather evidence and hand it over to the police,

Because they encourage this and will get right on it.

or get together with your neighbors and run the punks out.

They encourage this even more.

None of your hypothetical situations calls for a firearm, which would only escalate the encounter or lead to more dead innocents.

Shooting an assailant is not an "escalation" of anything, it's a de-escalation of assault, strong-arm robbery, or potential rape.

And what the fark is wrong with your situational awareness that you would walk into any of those?

And he caps it off with blaming the victim.

A hypothetical victim of a hypothetical crime that happened under hypothetical circumstances in hypothetical places is almost enough straw to fill a hypothetical hayloft.

As opposed to your hypothetical mugger who hypothetically is only after your wallet and jewelry in your hypothetical city where people can hypothetically avoid areas with gangs (the vast majority of urban areas have gangs) or hypothetically gather evidence and engage in hypothetical vigilantism....

demaL-demaL-yeH: Twitch Boy: So if owning a gun means I have a small penis, if I sell it and spend my days feeding ducks in the park and attending operas will people think I'm packing a 12-incher?

Dude, my 8-incher weighed 31 tons. If you can pack a 12-incher, people will definitely notice.

I was going to ask you, "What did you do in the military?" But now I see I need to ask you, "WHAT DID YOU DO IN THE MILITARY?"

a flying monkey made me do it: meat0918:   I'm curious it the OC law actually extends to public buildings.  I assume the courthouse is one they don't allow carry of any sort by civilians, and in the smaller county seats, the courthouse is in the county building with the assessor's office and a lot of other public functionaries.

Cops are civilians.

Tell them that.

Phil Moskowitz: Not only have the terrorists won, but America is looking more and more like the Middle East every day. Soon people will be walking around with their slung AKs when they go off to buy an apple. Now just teach the women to LULULULULULU instead of clapping at the theatre and we're all set.

The police already use MRAPs regularly, execute SWAT raids for the simplest of warrants, and treat the population (especially the poor and non-white) as an occupied population.

So yeah, the terrorists won. Even more stark considering Bin Laden's stated goal was to whip the US govt into an anti-terror fervor that would bankrupt them.

Dusk-You-n-Me: DrPainMD: ...and throwing millions of people in jail for driving safely from Point A to Point B, just because they have an arbitrary amount of alcohol in their bloodstream.

We shouldn't have drunk driving laws?

How much time should a person serve for safely driving from Point A to Point B?

rzrwiresunrise: DrPainMD: rzrwiresunrise: There are no more "injuns" looking to scalp you.
The robbers use PoS hacks now.
There won't be any slave uprisings any time soon.
There are no gangstas comin to cap yo ass, unless you tryin to creep turf or front off.
The game tend to avoid public places.
The city of Fallujah is nearly 7,000 mi away.
The Martians have ray-guns whose discharge travels at the speed of light.
What is the need for open-carry again?

Ummm... there may not be any of those things anymore, but there still is a 2nd Amendment.

Open-carry is different from right-to-bear.

No... open carry is a subset of right to bear.

How much time should I serve if you get from point A to point B safely and I shot at you the entire way?
