Really? Are there this many teams who think the OC's are responsible for Manning's current success? Or are they just hoping that they've gleaned some of his brilliance?

Ummm. Chris Palmer is still being paid millions as coach of the Browns from 1999, as is every coach they've hired since then.

Being fired on a guaranteed contract is not exactly the worst thing that can happen to a fella.  Hell, i'd grab such an opportunity in a heartbeat.

Just saw him at a Cavs game. It was the one against the Pistons right before Christmas. Christ, the Cavs looked terrible. I think that was Bynum's last game before he got suspended. He went 0-for-11 from the floor. At least I have the Indians to look forward to ... I wonder how long that will last.

And the new GM is apparently loving him some Johnny Football. So Browns fans will get a new coach and a new QB that already has quite a few NFL teams saying that they wouldn't touch him with a 30' pole. So the new coach is going to have to be able to work with unproven QB's. I hope whomever they hire has the ability and is given the time needed to turn that franchise around. The two first round picks this year will go a long way to determining the future of whomever is hired as coach.

Why are we surprised the Browns don't know wtf they're doing? At this point they should only appear on Fark if they actually so something competent.

Now I don't want to go pissing in anyone's Cheerios and all... but how much of the last season was really him?  I mean, they lost Boldin, which meant DBs could cover whomever they wanted. They lost half the O-line from the Super Bowl, which probably didn't help Bert out of most of his problems. They were without Ray-Ray and Jacoby Jones for a good month plus on top of that.  And then there's the defense.  They lost half of the previous defense including the heart & soul of the team and had trouble staying off the field.  To be honest, neither the offense nor defense could help keep the other off the field at times.

Let's face it, there was a lot that dived south after last year.  To pin it on Caldwell doesn't leave me thinking it's all just gonna be sunshine hookers & blow for them next year.

If someone wants to hire Darrell Bevell I probably wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Maybe the same goes for Tom Cable, who I'm starting to think isn't quite the O-line miracle worker I had thought him to be.

The most important one to keep is Kris Richard.

The article doesn't say they're paying Chris Palmer right now.  The article said they had to pay him for three more years after he was fired.

Shurmur and Chudzinski are the only coaches being paid right now (well, and the sucker who takes the next HC job), as noted by the word "left" in the chart in TFA.

Read that article, it doesn't say what you think it says.

The only ex-coaches they're paying right now are Shurmur and Chud. They have paid a lot of money to ex-coaches to not coach over the past 15 years, but they aren't paying all 7 of them *this* year.

I'd rather Bevell was hired away than Quinn, for sure. I want to keep Cable. His schemes and coaching work, as we've seen in years past, but the personnel and injuries forced a downturn this season. Cable's golden boy Sweezy has played much better in the 2nd half of the season. Breno has reigned it in and is playing solid, as are Unger and Okung (to a lesser extent for Okung). We need depth on the line, though. Carpenter is a total bust in pass protection and McQuistan doesn't deserve a job. Based on advanced metrics, McQuistan was one of the worst starting o-linemen in the league this season.

Remember Rich Amaral from the '90s Mariners? It occurred to me a while back that McQuistan is the Seahawks' Rich Amaral. Amaral was the guy they kept trying to replace, and failing to replace, and so year after year you could count on him to get a few hundred replacement-level at-bats and patrol the outfield next to Griffey and Buhner. But eventually it ended, and it has to end after this season for McQuistan, especially considering he's scheduled to count for $3 million against the cap.

Michael Bowie looked pretty good in his LG spot on Saturday, and Alvin Bailey shows some promise. I think they need to be prepared to let Breno walk, possibly cut ties with Carpenter (or at least cut his salary and let him earn a roving backup spot as the new McQuistan) and potentially look to spend multiple draft picks, including a high one, on the line.

Like all Fark football threads, this is now a Seahawks thread.

Well, it certainly can't be allowed to be a Browns thread.

/I think they go TE or big body WR with the 1st rounder depending on who's left.
//Wilson has shown that he can operate behind a subpar line, but a big go-to target is a priority.

I dont really understand why guys like Dan Quinn and Adam Gase are in such high regard as first year guys who basically didn't fark up already well oiled machines.

Mike McCoy before him at least showed he could make adjustments to literally any type of QB by getting some level of production out of a veer offense with Tebow.

Gus Bradley even made the Jags as competetive as they possibly could be given their circumstances. I dont think it's a lock Quinn can do the same.

And Seahawks fans saying good riddence to Bevell, ive noticed any OC who is coveted around the league normally gets crap from their own fanbase until they win it all. On a squad with pretty average threats in the passing game i feel he's gotten pretty fantastic and timely production, and leaned on the best part of the offense in the approrpriate times. Are you really that confident in finding someone better if he leaves?

EvilMonkeyBoy: Are you really that confident in finding someone better if he leaves?

I'm not sure about that. I think his play calling has become somewhat predictable, but the team isn't built to have a high-flying 500yd/game offense. The philosophy is different. I get frustrated with the offense on Sunday, then reconsider on Monday or Tuesday. I honestly don't know if anyone else would be given any freedom to run a crazy Chip Kelly offense or something here. It doesn't fit Carroll's gameplan of field position and ball control.

Yeah, for what they did to Chud (I think that's their nickname for him) I would not be surprised if very few people even considered interviewing for that position. Who would want to?

Their owner is in a MAJOR scandal, they treat their head coaches like crap, their team sucks, they have terrible luck... and seriously, it's Cleveland. I live here, and trust me, it sucks.

One of those articles said something about most of the buyouts being deferred (I'm assuming with interest). IIRC, as of the end of 2014 they will only have paid off $16 million of the roughly $49 million.
