These delightful pieces are supposed to be representative of what they person did for a living.

Or possibly something they really liked.

The lion coffin is anatomically correct, if not to scale.

FTFA> "There is a tribe in Ghana that reacts to death in such a way that would shock Westerners. After death the Ga tribe, instead of mourning, actually celebrate. "

Somebody's never heard of a wake.

I'd love to have one of those Ghana coffins. They are brilliant. The coffin-makers are real artists--look at the quality of their work. You can be buried in a symbol of your occupation or a whimisical expression of your aspirations, loves, hobbies, or tastes. The tropical fish are often chosen by fishermen.

I think a bookcase would be appropriate for me, or possibly a computer. I am of two minds on the bookcase, though. It is rather squarish and dull. Maybe a symbol of my star sign or my genealogy or something. I do like fantasy and SF. There's lots of ideas there.

How about a Giant Brain or the Info-Sphere? That would be cute. Or a cartoon character. I loves me some cartoons. Invader Zim? Daffy Duck? Lots of ideas there also.

A long time ago, I was working on a short story about a kid who bonded with his grandfather by helping him build his coffin before he died. Never really went anywhere, but it seemed like a cool idea at the time.

I think these are awesome.

Reminds me of Balinese coffins. People will save their whole lives to be able to afford elaborate coffins for their parents.

/stumbled on a Balinese funeral while i was there. Interesting experience... Like when the burning body fell thru the bottom of the coffin...

So let me get this straight. If I were one of the Ga people, I'd be buried in a bottle of single malt scotch?

Sign me up!
