That's Bridget Moynahan.
Tom Brady had a kid with her before he started dating Gisele.
ZaK was insinuating that Ms. Moynahan does not like Mr. Brady, but there relationship has been friendly or at least cordial since they split up.

He's like the Castro of the NFL.
Hate him, but do respect his leadership.

Unless Namath got coddled by the league and was allowed to play under a different set of rules than 90% of QBs, I don't think he understands the hatred for Brady.

Carson Palmer's knee is shredded. Unfortunate, but that happens sometimes in football.

Brady's knee is shredded. We must change the rules so this never happens again!

Roethlisberger's nose gets broken by a forearm shiver. Great play by Ngata.

Brady's helmet gets the slightest graze. Personal foul, roughing the passer, 15 yard penalty, automatic first down.

The Googles Do Nothing: Superb Owls?

The NFL is a teensy weensy bit overzealous over their trademark for the game that represents the final game of the playoffs.

http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-02-01/business/ct-biz-0201-b ig -game-20120201_1_nfl-shield-official-pizza-sponsor-nfl-sponsors

Using the phrase you quoted is a silly workaround to the issue.

yeah, i don't get the "roughing the passer" rules... when we had Air McNair, the dude would get destroyed no flags - and just play through the pain... years later when Hasselbald was playing a hand would graze his helmet and 15 yard penalty... i guess the league is just protecting fragile quarterbacks or something

If you don't strongly defend a trademark from infringement you risk losing it.

Big Game is the generic. Superb Owl is mostly "Look at how edgy I am, I hate a hugely popular spectacle"

There's a disconnect between his handsome appearance and off-field "accomplishments" with his fiery on-field competitiveness. He doesn't play the part of "pretty boy" but doesn't look like some grizzled tough-ass, either.

2014-01-14 01:16:30 PM

Orgasmatron138: Still kinda is. The biography that came out a couple years ago got a ton of hate in the media for that rsason. People are flawed. IMO that doesn't change the fact that he's one of the best ever.

Are you referring to his episode of A Football Life? That show does address more than just the football.  They've made it clear that they're not afraid to point out a player's flaws, both on and off the field.  But they did it in a way so as not to tarnish his greatness.  His actions were what they were.

The Derek Thomas episode is a good example.  They certainly didn't gloss over the fact that he had many children by many different women, none of whom he married.  But on the other hand DT gave a great deal back to those less fortunate than him...he gave of himself both personally and financially, and that's a lot more than many can say.

I used to work at a radio station in Honolulu. Was on sidelines and in locker room for interviews at the Pro Bowl every year. Tom Brady is an arrogant prick. Rude and dismissive. Other star QBs, notably Peyton Manning, were quite the opposite, very nice and gracious.
In fact, the only other negative experience I had with any player was Warren Sapp

I have always hated Brady, not because of success, but because he is, in fact, an asshole.

You're wrong.  Brady was the beneficiary of 2 roughing the passer calls this year - tied with 5 teams for 16th in the NFL - including Pittsburgh.  The year before he was tied with 8 other teams at 2, making them 15th; Pittsburgh was ahead with 3.
And you'd have to be crazy to think that the "Brady Rule" wasn't the result of an accumulation of injuries.

As a Bostonian who doesn't root for the Patriots (Ravens fan) I know very well how you feel.

CatfoodSpork: Cries about being drafted in the 7th round like it was the worst thing that ever happened to him. That's why I hate tom brady.

I think people forget that strong emotions occupy both ends of the spectrum. The guy is passionate about winning and working his ass off to be the best and it shows. It also shows when he talks about coming that close to not having the chance. He wasn't just playing college football. He was dreaming much bigger. He was never going to see the fruits of his labor if he didn't get a shot in the NFL.  And with that draft he came very close to never realizing those dreams. There are times in my life that I look back on and understand now just how important they were in getting me to where I am right now and some of them get me pretty emotional. Not that I weep openly about them or anything, but jeez... if I was 21 and my life path was splitting with one direction being the NFL, and the other being normal everyday existence, I'd be pretty emotional when reflecting on how close it came to not happening.

This. I posit that after his disappointing sixth-round selection and playing behind Bledsoe he went into a private room made a deal with Satan (I picture a long-fingernailed Willem Dafoe after the recent commercials) to crank up his career. Which of course included Bledsoe's injury, the improbable Super Bowl win over the Rams, a series of hot actresses/models, endorsements and continued success. The movie montage sequence pretty much writes itself.

And it's pretty evident he pissed off Satan on week 1 of 2008. Maybe Tom got a little too full of himself(?).

Actually, you could trace that back to February of 2008 as the exact point he might've pissed Satan off. XD  Week 1 was just interest accrued.

You do remember that the Bears won that game, right? And the defense that year was one of the best ever?

You have the facts correct.  We killed the Pats.  We had a 15-1 record.  Buddy built an incredible, nearly flawless defense.

However, Ditka and Buddy couldn't work together.  You're not going to have a legacy team- year after year- if you build a team based on animosity.  That's why we never won another championship, IMO.  Too much ish behind the scenes, too much distracting drama.

My main memory of Joe Namath isn't him winning the Superb Owl, it's him looking like a 97 year old man when I saw him play for the Rams in 1977. Sad, very sad.

As for Brady, I don't get the negativity towards him. He's the classic American story: he's worked really hard to be good at what he does, he's reaped the rewards. Is he a dick in post-game interviews? Sure, but so what, considering the amount of mind-numbingly stupid questions people like him after to answer at those things, it's amazing to me they don't pull out taser guns and fire them at the person who asked the dumb question. Are he and Belichick and the rest of them smug assholes sometimes? Sure, but their time will pass and it'll be back to earth for that franchise. Let's see how many 20-something women show up in Bob Kraft's luxury box then.

I also don't get the whole "Waaah! He's won three Superb Owls! He's dated and then married supermodels!!! Waaah!" nonsense. Yeah, pro athletes are sooooo prone to dating women that look like Melissa McCarthy. Oh wait, they like bleached blonde/fake boobs arm candy.

Plus, the whole "Brady is entitled, Peyton is the salt of the earth" meme is such crap. Peyton has been focused on being what he's become since he was a kid, he's the freakin' son of a former NFL quarterback and the brother of a current NFL quarterback, it's not like his parents were nuclear physicists and he came out of nowhere to be an NFL QB. It's actually a little creepy to me that he seems to have been so maniacally focused on football for so long.

Oh, and Peyton's a die-hard Republican and likes the awful Kenney Chesney, so fark him. [shields up]

Bane of Broone: The Googles Do Nothing: Superb Owls?

Another 4chan meme that made its way to Fark.

It's not a 4chan meme.  It originated because the NFL were being dicks and enforcing their trademark of the word "Super Bowl" on small things.  For example if you said "Our Baking Club is having a Super Bowl Party" and advertised it online, the NFL would come in and say "You can't call it any organized event a Super Bowl Party".

So it's more of a "fark you" to the NFL and their draconian copyright enforcement than anything.

This is interesting, as meeting him outside of football this couldn't be further from the truth. He came to a friend's house party, and was an incredibly easy guy to hang out with and have a beer. This was in Denver as well, so even the preponderance of hate from the Broncos fans didn't set him off.

This one always kills me, too.  Peter King is a Red Sox fan and that somehow translated into him being a Patriots fan / Tom Brady suckup.  It's simply not true.  He's a Giants fan, and Brett Favre was always his go-to guy up through 2010.  No, that didn't preclude him from EVER writing about Brady or the Patriots.  A team that's been to 8 AFC Championship games in the past 13 years is going to get some ink.  It's a weird compliment, though, along with the nonsense about getting special roughing the passer calls.

I think the context here was that Tom Brady wasn't sure he was going to be selected at all rather than being selected higher, and thus those were tears of belief.

But you know, if you want to hate him because of a misconception, go right ahead. I'm not too wild about him because of the ESPN home team coverage, but he does seem like he really knows how to play, so meh. Let him have his money.

It has nothing to do with which team King roots for, but rather that he had his favorites and his coverage (in volume) is way unbalanced.

I like his work--read MMQB, like his segments on PTI--but even as a Pats fan I've had enough of him slobbering over Tom.

As for Favre, not sure where your "through 2010" idea came from. Even his recent article about his dog dying included Favre.

I'd guess less than a dozen active, current NFL quarterbacks had as many mentions in his MMQB column over the past season as Favre.
