So now Subby believes everything the Iranian government says? That doesn't sound very patriotic.

And the Iraqis will welcome us with open arms. Your point?

A sorry someone is choosing to try to solve a problem with something other than war. I know it's a hassle.

Seeing how Iran is the world's fourth largest oil producer, there are certainly worse people we could be bowing down to.  Like Rush Limbaugh, for example.

Haven't you heard?  We don't need foreign oil anymore.

So the leader of the Iranian government is trying to spin this in a way that will make it acceptable to his people.  Should I be shocked?

Iran being able to sell their oil is good for them.  It is also good for the rest of the world that they are suspending their uranium refinement program.

How else would he portray an agreement he made?  He certainly can't be expected to cast it as a defeat.

Does that mean we're finally getting that Sharia Law we've been promised since Obama was elected?
It's about time.  The prayer rug in my closet has just been collecting dust for the last four years.

We should drop all sanctions and be nice to them. Maybe they'll nuke us last

In other news, Bagdhad Bob found to be working for Iran.

I know we've forgotten how this works in America but when an agreement is made it usually  means both sides got something they wanted while giving up nothing they couldn't live without.

czetie: So now Subby believes everything the Iranian government says? That doesn't sound very patriotic.

All conservative and Israeli news sources will repeat it as fact since it makes the US look bad. What a failure, Obama relaxed sanctions and all he got in return was the stopping of the expansion of Iran's nuclear program into new facilities and the destruction of all nuclear materials even close to weapons grade with UN inspectors in to verify compliance. Surely the mighty US has fallen so low to agree to such conditions.

Let's see: we haven't bombed the sh*t out of Iran, but seem to have achieved a primary objective.  This is seen as a massive failure as Conservatives trumpet the words of their great and true mentors: the Iranian government.

We did bomb the sh*t out of Iraq, and certainly got the regime change we were looking for, plus a whole lot more.  This is seen as a massive failure because we aren't still bombing the sh*t out of them.

All things being equal, I'll take the "massive failure" that doesn't cost us trillions and several thousand servicemen and women's lives and tens of thousands of disabled vets.

This.  Rouhani is playing the delicate game of appearing moderate enough to the West to get them to agree to a deal, while still appeasing the hardliners at home that this is a "win" and the West has "lost".  He's doing a pretty good job IMO.

Hi, did you not know that I was a socialist?? Is this a surprise?

I know that we will never nationalize the oil industry. I get that. But when people say "The US doesn't need foreign oil", I need to point out that "The US" does not OWN any of the oil in the US, Exxon, BP, etc owns all of the oil, and they sell it to the cheapest bidder.

2014-01-14 10:07:09 AM
So, a deal that works for us, makes the world safer, also works for Iran? Oh, the horror! If things are good for one who was my enemy, they are bad for me no matter how good they are for me. That's just Republican sense.

You're right. British Petroleum and Exxon DESERVES that oil, and they would never treat our country like a garbage dump. We are so lucky that they allow us to purchase our own natural resources.

2014-01-14 11:09:36 AM
Lol... now that's a heck of a sales job.  But if the hardliners fall for that, all the better.

No, they are better at exploration, production, delivery etc and they employ a farkton of people at relatively high wages and benes at a profit while collecting billions in taxes.

what_now: they would never treat our country like a garbage dump

And when they do they are punished.

what_now: We are so lucky that they allow us to purchase our own natural resources.

They did the work to get it and paid for the access to it...and FWIW, what's under my property is MINE to sell, not YOURS to take.

There's a reason that the people who work for these companies can't be government employees? Also, the taxes they pay is a joke. Sure the EMPLOYEES pay taxes, but the company gets a huge subsidy.

Dancin_In_Anson: And when they do they are punished.

Yes, with fines of a whole week of profits.

Dancin_In_Anson: They did the work to get it and paid for the access to it...and FWIW, what's under my property is MINE to sell, not YOURS to take.

Sure. If your land in Texas or South Dakota has some black gold, you can sell it to whomever, but you don't own the Gulf Coast or the Alaska wilds.

Also, the article comments are derp gold.

Two words: Post office. And the HUGE "subsidies" they get is pure unadulterated bullshiat.

what_now: Yes, with fines of a whole week of profits.

And if the government owns them and they have an accident who are you going to fine?

what_now: If your land in Texas or South Dakota has some black gold, you can sell it to whomever, but you don't own the Gulf Coast or the Alaska wilds.

And guess what? They pay for the privilege of drilling on public lands too! In 2013, the BLM collected over $200 million in leases. Imagine that.

Dancin_In_Anson: Two words: Post office.

you mean the government agency that Fed Ex uses to send mail to Alaska?

Dancin_In_Anson: And if the government owns them and they have an accident who are you going to fine?

An accident is when your car skids on black ice and you hit someone. When you're drunk (exon) or you don't maintain your equipment (BP) it's not an accident.

Especially not in Texas just off hand.  If you buy a house in a subdivision here, you own the topsoil and the slab your pos sits on.  But don't worry the oil company will clean up if they find something and decide to drill.

Welcome to flavor country.

The one and the same. How's their sheet looking?

what_now: When you're drunk (exon) or you don't maintain your equipment (BP) it's not an accident.

Maybe we can put the guys in charge of the US nuclear arsenal in charge of operations.

what_now: and how much was that oil sold for?

That was just the leases. Not sue how many of those actually involved active drilling. Check this shiat out. Sometimes a company will pay for a lease and never exercise their option.

Read what you're signing and if you don't like the provisions of the bill of sale DON'T BUY IT! You should try it sometime.
