mamoru: So, what you are saying then, subby, is that there have been a significant number of crashes *below* sea level in order to offset the many above sea level crashes and thus make the average about sea level? I would like to know about these crashes. :p
tomerson: Planes crash on land on average, or above MSL,dumbass.
Ishkur: tomerson: Planes crash on land on average, or above MSL,dumbass.Yeah? Well, what if a plane crashes in Death Valley, huh? You ever think of that?
Smoking GNU: Ishkur: tomerson: Planes crash on land on average, or above MSL,dumbass.Yeah? Well, what if a plane crashes in Death Valley, huh? You ever think of that? They'd be extra-crispy?
Gyrfalcon: It would be harder for them to GET any lower. Now, deaths from submarine crashes are a different matter altogether.
dobro: I'm willing to bet the airplane death rate was lower in 1900.
Gyrfalcon: dobro: I'm willing to bet the airplane death rate was lower in 1900.But was it ZERO, that's the real question.
Chaide: That's all well and good, but the vast majority of people in plane crashes die regardless.I fly if I have to, but I don't care for it. On the slim chance that the plane does end up crashing, I'm probably done for./debbie downer
GBmanNC: Mythbusted. According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the survival rate for crashes over a 20 year period was 95%. Hell even if you only look at the severe ones, you're still looking at a survival rate above 75%.Don't be trying to rationalize your irrational fear.
August11: I fly enough to hate it. I'm not as afraid of dying as I am of the mode. Those thirty to sixty seconds of powerless, strapped in, gut-crushing, animalistic, roaring terror--that's what scares me.
Weatherkiss: Gyrfalcon: It would be harder for them to GET any lower. Now, deaths from submarine crashes are a different matter altogether.Deaths from submarine crashes are a different matter.
SquiggsIN: (also grandad always said about skydiving : why would someone want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane)
zimbomba63: I bet that this is due to Global Warming, too. (Al Gore stares at the sky, and says, "I warned you, but, you wouldn't listen!)
