They signed Nick Novak?

Such an awesome QB coach, he'll have about 4-5 of them before he's run out

Now they only need to lure Kurt Warner out of retirement.

Apparently said Whiz was taken right into the laps of the Titan fans.

As a Bears fan, I glad he went to the Titans, and not the Lions.  The Lions are probably holding out for some kind of nut, to replace their last nut.

Shame Us: I don't get it, but glad they passed on Quinn.

Kinda odd how the Titans owner was so "smitten" with Quinn and the Seahawks organization only to turn around and hire Whiz the second his season ended.

Wonder if the Lions just ask Schwartz to come back and pretend they never fired him?

Hey now, if you give him a franchise QB who posts his best numbers without Whisenhunt there, he can put up decent numbers.

Atleast it is early enough that top assistants are going to be available. I'm glad Tampa has had their pick of available coordinators/position coaches instead of scrambling when they settled for Schiano last time. Tampa was never able to get a good coaching staff together partly because it was so late in the game, partly because Schiano didn't know NFL type coaches. (They fired the OC right before the start of his first season). Detroit and MN must be waiting for coaches still in the playoffs. Cleveland on the other hand....

Stafford's completion percentage would jump 5 points next year by simply placing electrodes on his testicles and sending a jolt every time he does his random, needless sidearm and corkscrew releases during OTAs and training camp.

I dunno, if he gets his hands on a HoF quarterback, two game breaking receivers, and a defense you might change your tune...

Lions being the Lions. There's a reason they've won 1 farking playoff game in over a half century. The same reason that Ford Motor Company didn't start to turn things around until the Ford family wasn't running day to day operations.

The real culprits are the mouthbreathing fans who will watch the press conference when the Lions announce the latest savior coach (even though he was plan b or c or d or whoever they could get to take the damn job) as the "guy they wanted all along" and believe it. They'll also turn out 63000 strong eight weeks next year, buy the merchandise, wave the banners, and wonder why their beloved Lions are mediocre......again.

Yeah, it was pretty shiatty of him to do that.  Their offensive game plan sucked for the first half.  They didn't start moving the ball until they got desperate.

He seems like a prick.

Because if there's a coach with a track record of great success with unstable QB situations, it's Whiz.

Locker will play the first three games, get benched for Fitz for two, will come back for one or two before Whiz brings in John Skelton.

For a head coaching job? Hell yes, with the possible rare exception of an absolutely hopeless vortex of suck like the Redskins. Instant pay raise, chance to build something, strategic control, huge addition to the résumé (enabling a soft landing in another coordinator job in the likely event of a future firing)? Absolutely. Smart man, that Gus Bradley.

This is always possible, because the Lions do Lions things.  Schwartz would come back with extra dedication to be as goofy as he can possibly be.

Ironically, Seattle fans weren't sorry to see Bradley go, he of the "the game is on the line, so let's go to three deep prevent" strategy.  That said, Cleveland seems to be having a helluva time even getting people to interview.  Maybe they'll have to promote Norv or lure Holmgren in.  I can't imagine many young coaches that would want to give it a try.  Sure, the D is pretty much in place, but the ownership is godawful.  I still can't believe Gruden sold his soul to get the job in Washington.  Poor bastard will be done in two seasons.

Ah, the NFL recycles its trash again.

Not that Whisenhunt is a bad coach or a bad person, but as a previously fired head coach he is more likely than not to fail again. It's as if NFL teams will settle for being moderately successful and hope for more. It's Marty Schottenheimer syndrome.

Even then, his mind wasn't on the game...fark him.  It showed in the game that he didn't do his job well, and it likely cost the Chargers the game.

I thought he did a pretty good job in Arizona until he completely botched the QB situation his last year there. It's pretty much a crapshoot with these hires especially when they're going into unsettled situations like this one. That's what makes it really surprising that he didn't go after the Detroit job since they have solid talent in place on both sides of the ball.

I'm all for giving new guys a chance to be a head coach, but I can't really fault a team for wanting to go with a known commodity. You could hit a home run like Baltimore did with John Harbaugh, or you can be Miami and end up with Cam Cameron.

That makes too much sense.  I think they should have a moratorium for all hirings and firings from season end to after the Super Bowl.  It makes a more even playing field for everyone.  That said they still need permission from the teams to interview coordinators while they are still active.

Of the final four

Carroll was a 2-time retread
Belichick was a retread
Fox was a retread
Harbaugh was new

All the divisional coaches were new hires

Of the coaches fired in 2013/4

Kubiack was new coach
Chud was new coach
Frazier was new coach
Schwartz was new coach
Schiano was new coach
Munchack was new coach

Shanahan was retread
