Remember the defunct McDonald's that became a restoration facility for the old lunar orbiter tapes from the 60's?

There's a freaking McDonalds in Dachau? I'm going to go punch someone. Seriously, that is farked up.

You understand that the whole horror of the thing is that these camps were in perfectly normal Central European towns that people lived in, blissfully and and increasingly willfully ignorant of what was going on?

So the next time you're going about your life and say 'I don't even wanna know about X', give it some thought.

Obviously these buildings attract the kind of tenants that aren't going to spring for a whole lot of remodeling.

This guy is clearly on a mission from a pizza oriented deity.  Obscure as it, he is actually chronicling history in a limited sense.  There appears to be no personal stake in this which makes it odder.

Strip malls deprive us of this timeless experience. Last year I went to a Smashburger and went back recently to the exact same spot to see that it's a Pepperjax now. The only external visual change was the sign.

Also, now that Quizno's is going under, a lot of former franchises are now vacant. Our's was taken over by a local start-up called Mad Ox Bakery and there are still some signs of it's former tenant's presence, like the color schemes of the walls.

First wait job was at a pizza hut. Learned that not everyone tipped no matter how great the service was. Family. Large, expensive (for pizza hut) order. Kids. Milk spilled. Cheerfully and efficiently cleaned and re-set the table and provided fresh new drinks. Ring of food scraps and napkins around the table thrown by kids. I start hurling napkins around looking for my big tip. Nothing. Nothing.

Learned to profile the tippers. Blue collar? Previous tipper? Bikers? You can all sit in my section. Families and church people, ladies who lunch, you can sit in some other section. You'll get professional service, but I'm not wasting any extra energy on you.

Somacandra: Pocket Ninja: Pizza Hut pizza is to every other chain restaurant pizza as Chicago-style pizza is to New York.

For your next performance, you should stick your neck into any Irish pub in Dublin and shout "OLIVER CROMWELL!!!" in a loud voice.

I usually think your posts are idiotic, but THANK YOU for saying this. Jesus Christ, Pocket Ninja's shtick is so old by now, it should be sitting in a nursing home while its Social Security checks are stolen by its ne'er-do-well son.

Maybe it is just a midwest/Chicago thing, but some Pizza Huts have a lunch buffet. Classic salad bar with pudding and cottage cheese. It is as good as the Flying J truck stop salad bar. The pasta bake consists of rotini pasta, some sort of cow based meat, cheeses, and pepperoni slices. It is only $8 with a pop and there is a tabletop pac man game and temporary tattoo gumball machines with some really classy lowrider designs. One time I got a Chicago Bears sticker for my hardhat from the gumball machine and traded it to a vacationing Chilean fisherman for a pilfered dessert breadstick after I paid my bill.

There's a building in my town that was originally a Hot N Now that only lasted  about a year, then became an office building for a credit union for about a decade, and is now being converted into a Krispy Kreme.

Pizza Hut may not have the best pizza, but their breadsticks are amazing. Best chain pizza breadsticks hands down.

It's always weird seeing an old Pizza Hut as a cash for gold shop or a payday loan place.

Dachau's actually a town you know. They've got just as much right to shiatty fast food as everybody else, and they need to feed the tourists while they're at it.

I like this because you aren't revealing your true opinion. Which way does the scale go? Who knows? Everybody who likes any pizza has an opportunity to disagree with you.
