We should start making gloves out of his babies. I'm sure one of them could feed a family of 4 for at least a week if the fat was rendered and the bones were used for soup.I'm sure that "article" could be more of an editorial hit piece, I'm just not sure how.

GoldSpider: Ahh, starting out the week with a classic poor-shaming thread. Carry on, Fark!

That is why they are called entitlements and not benefits.  Entitlements removes the stigma and shame because the recipients come to realize they are owed a share of what is other people's money based on their mere existence-they are entitled to it.  It is liked the Earned Income Tax Credit.  It is not really earned (no services or goods are provided in exchange for it) so it is not really income but it is less shameful for the recipients by calling it earned instead of welfare.

USA! USA! USA!

Now We Know: JPMorgan Chase Is Worse Than Enron

Foreclosure fraud, investor fraud, cheating customers, market manipulation, LIBOR ... and now, the coup de grâce to JPM's tattered reputation: a $2 billion fine for closing its eyes and covering up as Bernie Madoff literally bilked widows and orphans, along with a lot of other families and charities.

Yep. This career criminal means that all people who are poor and need government assistance are career criminal masterminds.

QED - We need to jail the poor. It'll fix all crime problems.

Quite everyone, the Two Stooges are discussing something!  Please take notes, this is important.

how do you know?

I know a person on SS because she's obese.

That's social security disability.. not the same animal and you know it. I would take the time to 'splane it to you but I am sure you already know just trying to play troll baiter

managed by the social security administration. that gives the disabled checks that says "social security" on the front of it.

TrotlineDesigns: just trying to play troll baiter

nope. just pointing out that SS isn't just for people who "earned" it.

Social Security Disability is a separate program from what typically referred to as Social Security.

you are both wrong,

Social Security Disability Insurance is for people who have contributed to the system but became disabled before ordinary retirement age, their benefit is based on their contribution.

you are thinking of SSI "Supplemental Security Income" which is Welfare, it is around 700-800 a month depending on which state you are in and is for people who are too disabled to have much or any work history and for disabled children. SSI has income limitations

marcpen: This is just the Daily Fail jumping on the bandwagon. One of our TV channels is showing a controversial series called Benefits Street which is essentially poverty porn aimed at the Fail's right-wing readership.
But the truth is that benefit fraud accounts for a tiny percentage of the total social security bill, and represents less than one percent of what the government could recoup if it clamped down on tax avoidance and evasion. It costs the country more every time the RAF flies one of its planes into a mountain, and if the pilot projects successfully that event will get no more than two paragraphs on an inside page.
MPs themselves have been shown to be the worst offenders when it comes to illegally claiming government handouts.

==================

The tactic of attacking the entire welfare system as a failure by using one extreme case of fraud was pioneered by Ronald Reagan, who coined the term, "Welfare Queen".    Read the story of Linda Taylor.....it's long but worth it.  This woman was a full blown sociopath, but her story was presented as being typical of people who were on the dole.  http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/history/2013/12/linda _ taylor_welfare_queen_ronald_reagan_made_her_a_notorious_american_villa in.html

I didn't see benefits mentioned anywhere in the article, except for the headline. Maybe this is part of a series about this family for some reason.

Found something in the Mirror about it.

British tabloids are weird.

It's funny, you get one impression of England in the US. Then you get to your hotel, turn on the "tele" and get daytime talk show trash with British accents, and weird call-in/quiz show gambling.

They really are more sensible about using escalators, though.

Greek: Not that I am, in any way, defending abusers of the welfare system in any country, but... The headline, here and at The Fail, say this guy is a drug dealer. However, the only mention of drugs in the article is that the guy was found guilty of "possession of cannabis" which the paper SAYS was a large amount, but there's nothing in there about any sort of official drug dealing charge. It seems to me that this guy's biggest problem is an inability to keep it in his pants. Bailiff! Whack his peepee!

I'm not sure how much he was caught with but doing the conversion on the currency you could probably get a quarter pound of decent stuff where I live for that. He's dealing, but he's not dealing all that much if that was his big arrest.

I happily stand corrected.  My sister born disabled got SSI until she got a job then they cut it off and she was fine with that because she made a lot more money.. the issue was with her health care.

I retired military so get my check until the powers that are decide I can't have it.. Wife started getting her SS check at 62 .. Same rules apply to her as they do my sister.. don't make to much or them gobermentals will take it all back.. She is the editor of our local paper so working under the table isn't an option..

No.. we aren't both wrong.. Jackie Treehorn would have more respect for those that .. well.. most of you kids wouldn't get the reference.. but fact is my legless sister gets a huge 370 dollars per month.. she got a job that paid more so now she gets nothing.. Thanks Obama because Bush made sure she could survive on her own.
