I see Theon Greyjoy is back in armor and out and about again. Doesn't this put his storyline pretty much ahead of the books?

Want. Want now!

Pawn takes the King: This will be excellent.

I just hope the CGI effects for zombie werewolf Robb Stark are decent.

I hope so.  From what I've heard George R.R. Martin is having a hard time resolving his story lines.  HBO might write a better ending than he could.

A long time ago in middle school I tried reading the first book, and was far too annoyed by the needless sex and endless descriptions of pies to get through it.

I gave it another go about a year ago thanks to the TV series, and only got part-way into book 2.

Suffice to say, to the question of whether HBO can come up with a better X for Y, when it comes to the scrawling of Martin, I respond, "No sh*t!"

Considering he still hasn't announced a date for Book Six, I find it nearly impossible to believe he'll write a Book Seven before the HBO show catches up.

I too trust HBO to do a better job of wrapping up the story than I do Martin. I don't think he ever really planned on finishing.

I have no source on this, but I think I heard someone claim once that Martin has advised some of the show runners, etc. about his long-term plans just in case.

Of course, writing is a treacherous journey through the mind, so who knows what he told them and where things might go.

It will be interesting to see the ratings for this upcoming season.  If my friends are any indication, they will be lower.  People are getting frustrated with the "good guys always fail" vibe.  I think that plays harder on a TV audience that a book reader.

I hear he is having trouble finding time to do any writing.

I'm actually reasonably confident that George will finish TWoW this year. Based on the fact that he said he's currently sitting at 1k manuscript pages and is aiming for another 500ish. Since he solved the problem that caused AFFC and ADWD to take so long there's no reason (at the moment) to think that he won't be able to finish the next two (though I do suspect there will have to be an eighth) in a relatively speedy fashion. Especially with the fire lit under his ass from the show. The cynicism about him having no desire to finish the series strikes me as odd. He's a professional writer. It's his baby. Of course he wants to finish it.

This season is going to be very bittersweet. On the one hand, I'm pretty excited to see what HBO will do with it. On the other, Emilia Clarke has said that she won't show her titties anymore.

Don't get me started....

Ever read his live journal? Or the multiple multi-thousand post threads on SA about his writing habits (and hygiene, obesity, sexual proclivities, et all)?

I used to. Helped me through two re-readings and nearly 5 years of waiting for the last book. I'm coaching my brother and two coworkers now as they near the end of the fifth on how to deal until AT LEAST next year. If ever really.

/I'm not going to bother looking up which convention he's at or which side project he's working on, but you can... There'll be something.

There's a scene in ADWD that I swear Martin wrote just to have her sitting there topless for an hour...

if you are referring to the "story" from a former actress on the show that said another actress would no longer be naked...that looks like it was nonsense, and it certainly wasn't Emilia sice she had a nude scene in that very season.

Here's the thing about Martin: you have zero input or control over what he does and does not do, period. Why fret that he won't finish the books? Hell, if all of the comments are to be believed he's overrated anyways. Do you TRULY think HBO would just let the series languish for years without some sort of continuation?

2014-01-13 07:46:03 AM
The HBO series will catch up REALLY quickly if they are smart about editing down Books 4 and 5. There are needless amounts of side stories and secondary characters that don't advance the plot an inch that could be seriously pared down or edited out completely

I thought it was Oona Chaplin that wasn't going to be showing her titties anymore, which was rather irrelevant considering the red wedding...

This.  I found Brienne's subplot to be particularly boring.  Chapter after chapter of her wandering aimlessly around Westeros.

Perhaps someday I'll learn not to click on a Game of Thrones thread. People that have read the books can't shut their f'ing mouths for one second. And no your subtle allusions aren't all that subtle.

Sounds like that won't be a problem for much longer. Soon, there won't be anyone with advanced knowledge to spoil anything.

She was referring to another actress (so she says) that had "had it" with the nudity.

Still want to see the show do something more vile and farked up to him than the books. His end is too clean. Make him spew blood from every orifice. Make it painful so that he starts screaming and his scream becomes a drowning gurgle as his throat fills with blood. They can at least do that right? Make it a different kind of poison that does something like that?

That is why I did not click a single game of thrones thread until I had read all of the books. The best defense against spoilers is abstinence.

Not sure why.  I don't like the fact that GRRM follows Lord Helmet's "evil will always triumph because good is dumb" mantra, but GoT is hardly an outlier as far as U.S. TV goes.
