So to reiterate the author's question: if those 90 million people have "abandoned the workforce" what ARE they doing? Does he REALLY believe there are now 90 million panhandlers, whores and welfare moochers lying around the nation no longer even trying to find work?

And if so, who are they? WHERE are they? There are still lots of jobs out there, why aren't some of those 90 million applying?

This is rapidly approaching a a pre-revolutionary condition, but not for a revolution many of us would want to undergo.  To avoid it, a massive change must occur at the federal level.  But Barack Obama, mired in a dead ideology, doesn't seem prepared to do anything but prolong the situation with highly  conventional liberal solutions that have failed for decades, maybe even centuries.

The guy who wrote this represents everything that is wrong with America.  He should be ashamed to look at himself in the mirror in the morning.

America's welfare recipients (those scamming the system) are all followers of the Ayn Rand philosophies whether they know it or not.

Ayn Rand's objectivism states that all your actions should be for personal benefit.  If you aren't selfish and self serving then you deserve nothing.  So when people scam the system and greedily get a check while spending their days doing what they want when they want to do it, are all serving the philosophy very well.  When they think only about themselves and say fark America, "I'm getting mine", they're objectivists.

The only difference is that they aren't billionaires, they're supposed to be the disposable underclass so they gather the ire of the 1%'ers because they're playing the game of the elite and drinking the nation dry for personal gain.

That said, on Jan 1st, for the first time in ever, I got all four of my MS drugs in the same month, until then, they had cost more than I actually make in a month... so right now, the conservative "solution" is to scuttle the ship, for me to be uninsured again, and hope that maybe you f@#@ers can come up with something more than the NOTHING AT ALL you've come up with since you killed HillaryCare with the idea that the conservatives could craft a better solution. Thank you. From a literary standpoint it's the most boring, ignorant, piece of tripe I have ever had the misfortune of picking up. As for Galt not being a fascist-rich-Superman, I would argue instead that he was a horrible human being that spent half the book arguing rational selfishness (rational egoism). Everything that Jesus, Ghandi, the current Pope or anyone with an actual soul argued against. How this makes him a "hero" to the GoP I will never know...wait a minute...

I'd rather read the nichomachean ethics or das kapital they're more exciting as far as plotlines

America is a shiathole of stagnant growth because you refuse to pay anyone for anything. That's the recipe that got you the great depression. Even the most wealthy would benefit from a vibrant middle class. It would keep their money from becoming Monopoly Bucks and the angry poor from severing their head.

2014-01-12 05:32:41 PM

brantgoose: Dumbass.

The unemployed who have stopped looking for work aren't exactly John Galt. John Galt was a super-rich facist superman who went on strike against the tax man in the wet-dream fantasy of a White Russian harlot.

Also, where does that 92 million figure come from? Did he find it between his buttocks?

4% of the population of the USA is 0.04 x 316=12.64 million, about the number of undocumented workers according to Conservative sources. That's roughly the gap that the chart shows. 92 million? That must be every adult who isn't looking for work including retirees and stay-at-home moms, and yes, John Galt.

What a dumbass.

My guess is that if a real-life John Galt went on strike, nobody would notice him not doing whatever the hell it is he does. One, it is not billionaires who make jobs. Jobs are made by small and medum sized businesses--real entrepreneurs, not bankers, hedge funders, speculators, kleptocrats, vultures, etc.

The big money does not make jobs. The big money destroys jobs to pump up their bottom lines, to pay a dividend, and to make themselves look good with shareholders who don't know or care about the real world or Main Street, but only dividends or share prices.

I figured that, I just mean of all things an election machine company (Diebold is most likely just as evil, if not more so) would willingly be in an office park that has them on a street called John Galt Boulevard. It makes you think about the psyche of the executives of that company and what they would and could (and possibly have done) do in changing election results to ones that the execs like if they could get away with it.

And finally, let's do away forever with the silly unemployment statistic (as in today's 6.7% unemployed).  It has no relevance to anything and is a form of disinformation.  The labor participation rate is the true story.

Did this guy get a degree in RIAA/MPAA Economics?

"You can say the Unemployed rate is 6.7%, but if count children too young to work, seniors too old to work, the sick, the disabled, the unborn, and any real or fictional person born in the future not currently working, that number is actually 7,000%. Thanks Obama"

Sooooo......  I thought he was saying that we have an unemployment rate of 29% (92 million out of 317 million), but if he's removing the too-young children from the 317, which is 61 million as of 2012, we actually have an unemployment rate of 36% (92 out of 256).

You'd think people would notice something like that, 36% unemployment.
