Dumbass.

The unemployed who have stopped looking for work aren't exactly John Galt. John Galt was a super-rich facist superman who went on strike against the tax man in the wet-dream fantasy of a White Russian harlot.

Also, where does that 92 million figure come from? Did he find it between his buttocks?

4% of the population of the USA is 0.04 x 316=12.64 million, about the number of undocumented workers according to Conservative sources. That's roughly the gap that the chart shows. 92 million? That must be every adult who isn't looking for work including retirees and stay-at-home moms, and yes, John Galt.

What a dumbass.

My guess is that if a real-life John Galt went on strike, nobody would notice him not doing whatever the hell it is he does. One, it is not billionaires who make jobs. Jobs are made by small and medum sized businesses--real entrepreneurs, not bankers, hedge funders, speculators, kleptocrats, vultures, etc.

The big money does not make jobs. The big money destroys jobs to pump up their bottom lines, to pay a dividend, and to make themselves look good with shareholders who don't know or care about the real world or Main Street, but only dividends or share prices.

This guy has less of a grip on reality than Ayn Rand's most pizza-faced teenage acolyte.

Bugger John Galt and the ass he rode in on. Which in his case is named Roger L. Simon.

If John Galt went on strike someone else would come up with the idea and market it. And then become very wealthy.

I was amused how the two lines in the chart only diverged after Obama became president. Shouldn't the red and blue lines have been separate all the way to the beginning of the chart? There is no way to express more clearly how certain issues only become issues when a Democrat is in office. Elect a Republican and we will never see that chart again.

Not that you would know because you obviously didn't read the book, but John Galt was a laborer for the Taggart Transcontinental railroad company. He invented an engine that ran on atmospheric static electricity, then abandoned it. He was not a billionaire and he certainly wasn't a "facist-superman".

In the end, it was the looter class that captured him and were getting ready to torture him for the engine. He escaped. (spoiler alert).

and this is or was a real company
The John Galt Corporation is a demolition and construction contractor based in New York City, which was subcontracted to demolish the Deutsche Bank Building after the building suffered severe damage during the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. The company was involved in multiple scandals related to its work at the site.
The company was founded in 1983 and named for a character from Ayn Rand's novel Atlas Shrugged. The company had apparently done no substantial work of any kind until it was subcontracted by Bovis Lend Lease to demolish the Deutsche Bank Building. The company essentially acted as a shell corporation for the Regional Scaffolding and Hoisting Company and two former Safeway Environmental Corporation executives. The use of a shell corporation is not unusual within the demolition industry, but the participation of Safeway Environmental executives drew attention because of past problems that company had with government contracts, including accusations of ties to criminal organizations.[1]
Three of the company's construction supervisors (Mitchel Alvo, Salvatore DePaola, and Jeffrey Melofchik) were charged for manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide as a result of the deaths of two firefighters in a fire which broke out in August 2007. The John Galt Corporation was also charged.[2] Alvo was acquitted in a bench trial; DePaola and Melofchik were cleared in a jury trial. The company was acquitted of manslaughter, but was convicted of second-degree reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor.[3][4]
In a separate case, one of the company's purchasing agents, Robert Chiarappa, was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for embezzling over 1.2 million dollars from the building's demolition. Three other people also plead guilty for their involvement in the scheme.

Sure you read the book
The novel unfolds in a progressive retrospective, with Galt, the son of an Ohio garage mechanic, leaving home at age twelve and beginning college at the fictional Patrick Henry University at age sixteen. There he meets Francisco d'Anconia and Ragnar Danneskjöld, who become his two closest friends. Galt takes a double major in physics and philosophy, and after graduating, he becomes an engineer at the Twentieth Century Motor Company, where he designs a revolutionary new motor powered by ambient static electricity. When the company owners decide to run the factory by the collectivist maxim, "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need", Galt refuses to work there any longer and abandons his motor.

The local maximum was around late 2008. Before that there was a tumble in 2000 right before Bush took over that never fully recovered and stayed around the same level.

Who would have thought that over 30 years of policies designed to decrease workers wages and benefits and maximize investor and executive profits would have a negative effect on the workforce?

For many years growing up, I remember hearing comments like "Of course everything is made in (Japan/China/Taiwan), those people work for rice and fish heads!" . If the GOP can successfully destroy all of the social safety nets, eventually Americans will take any job at any wage. Then cheap manufacturing will come back here and people in Asia will say it's because Americans will work for pork rinds and fries.

Thank you. From a literary standpoint it's the most boring, ignorant, piece of tripe I have ever had the misfortune of picking up. As for Galt not being a fascist-rich-Superman, I would argue instead that he was a horrible human being that spent half the book arguing rational selfishness (rational egoism). Everything that Jesus, Ghandi, the current Pope or anyone with an actual soul argued against. How this makes him a "hero" to the GoP I will never know...wait a minute...
