HEY....well said DaLinuxNut....I agree, if the good ole' US wanted Canada, we would have it. But, they're like the "guy next door" the one who meets ya at the fence and has a beer with ya ! (and Mexico is just the guy you never talk to) baahahhaaaa

Members of a Canadian special forces unit have gone to a Middle East location to join the U.S.-led military campaign against terrorism, Canadian Defense Minister Art Eggleton said Thursday. The soldiers of the covert anti-terrorist unit JTF-2 were part of the Canadian contribution of 2,000 military personnel, including six ships and six transport and surveillance planes, announced in October.

That was copied from MSN.com.....They are helping the US quite a bit I think....Hey'

Why we are sending ships to a landlocked country, I don't think I'll ever know. Aircraft carriers I can see.. but frigates?

first off, I'm Canadian and work in a tech support call centre for Road Runner here in Ottawa. I get to talk to you Americans all day long and fix your stupid computers. The one thing that gets me through the day here is laughing at how retarded most of you really are. I mean, really..... come on.

Yes, Canada has a Navy, yes we have Thanksgiving a month earlier (but Christmas is still the same day as yours....that one was thanks to a caller from Columbus...oy) and we don't all live in igloos but live not unlike yourselves (only we're less ignorant and more worldly....)

Now, I won't go into Canadian politics, but maybe someone else wants to tackle that one...

Actually, I've lived near both the Canadian and Mexican borders and I've grown prejudice. Not so much to a race or culture -- but towards proximity to the equator.

Yep, that's right... I'm an equatorial bigot. Something about hot weather increases stupidity. So I like Canadians as long as they don't move south.

We've got three ocean coasts, eight coastal provinces, three coastal territories, four great lakes....

And not a single moose in a pear tree!

To learn about Canada's ships, click here.

These are actually very modern ships and are very good sub-hunters.

Best watch out, America. Look at how tiny we were, but with a decent navy you can rule the world!

Its funny how many of Canada's wars never make it to any US history books, it just shows the brainwashing similar to the old Soviet Union. I bet no American here has ever heard of the war between Canada and Portugal and the worst part was that it was started by the US in 1979. I don't know if many of you are old enough to remember. On Mar 23 1979 The frigate HMSC Mansbridge was patroling the waters off of Nova Scota when a American Coast Gaurd cutter (sorry I forget the name) was rammed by a Portuagese naval vessel that was protecting some Port. fishing boats. Well to make a long story short we saved all of the US coast Guard personell and then the HMSC Mansbridge was fired upon by the Port. vessel. we were locked into a 4 year war with those guys and the loss of 300 Canadian military personell, wich also lead to Cuba moving into Portoguese Angola and destabilizing the whole country. At the time Prime Minister Rick Mercer spoke those famous words, "Never has such courage been so ignored by the ignorant"
Unfortuantly that incident was the undoing of the Prime Minister and left the door open for Lloyd Robertson.

Heres a link if anyone is interested

I always thought us Canadians were also well known for our sense humor about ourselves.

But I guess when I heard "well known for sense of humor" what was actully said was "Well known for constantly trying to look down on Americans", my mistake.

But on another note we are getting tired about all the Canadian jokes, so Pete, Clem and Arnold have loaded up their pickup with shotguns and moonpie and are heading towards the States. You'll know what fear is when you see the entire Canadian army heading towards you.

2001-12-07 08:47:55 AM
BTW Norad is a US-Canada military operation. It's not solely US run. Canada also sent warships to the Persian Gulf during the war in Iraq.

Oh, and Frostythehitman's pic is of a US Coast Guard boat, not Canadian at all. Doh!

And MisterSym: Yeah, Canada is a dominion of Britain still -- mostly for show -- and they put the Queen's pic on all their money. The queen actually gets to appoint some royal governor of Canada (who does fark all).

MrGlass: Cruise missiles, for one thing, and probably also surveillance, air fire, and maybe troop transport.... (Come on guys, aren't the resident conservatives of this site supposed to know this military stuff? You're letting yourself be shown up by a peacenik liberal, gasp! :))

Of course we do.

All three "Maid of the Mists" and Relic's boat from The Beachcombers.

"Royal Governor of Canada"

Govenor General actually. She (currently, usually a he) is the Monarchy's representative in Canada, and *technically* weilds quite a bit of power, although it's never used. (Much like the Monarchy)

Oh, and as a side note. It's only funny when CANADIANS (or the Simpsons) make jokes about Canadians. Otherwise it's disrespectful

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get the huskies ready for the commute to work. ;-)

Canadian politics, what can I say. Our first PM was a drunk and our present one is a spineless sheep and the only one's to recognize that Canada existed west of Ontario were Clark and Diefenbaker.

2001-12-07 10:16:18 AM
Don't tell me, your from Alberta.

2001-12-07 10:19:12 AM
Just a quick note about the Governonr General - The Prime Minister picks them these days (has since the 60's). The Queen approves, but what the hell is the Queen gonna do if she doesn't want to approve?

It's a matter of heritage more than anything else. We'll probably end up getting rid of our monarchy in a few eyars anyway.

It's just a shame that the West Edmonton Mall has more submarines than the Canadian navy. Wait, that's not so much a shame as it is funny.

O Canada, I stand on guard for thee, but I've just one question: Who the hell stands on guard for ME???

2001-12-07 11:22:49 AM
Yeah, most American squids have seen Canadian ships. They often make friendly visits to our Navy bases. They (the ships) are swimming-pool blue in color, almost a turquoise, while the US Navy's ships are in good ol "Haze Gray".
And I think Canuck ships still issue beer to the sailors. Is correct?

O Canada, I stand on guard for thee, but I've just one question: Who the hell stands on guard for ME???

I think the song goes, WE stand on guard for thee.

On your posting you changed the national anthem from We to I and thee to ME.

Canada IS strong and will always be strong in spirit not from our politicians but from us.
When we start talking selfishly and selfcentred we lower ourselves to the same level as our American neighbours to the south.
If you don't like it go and get a green card, we'd be alot better off without you.

Hear hear Leonard, it's high time that Canadians took a more active role in what happens to their country. The American style of blind patriotism is a little too extreme for me, however the flat-out apathy of most Canadians pisses me off on a daily basis.

Glad to meet another Proud Canadian.

I have two canadian roommates. They're hysterical. Every time any MENTION of Canada is in the news or if they overhear someone say the word "Canada", you'd think they had won the lottery. Talk about your easily amused ... hehe

In all honesty, I love Canada.

2001-12-07 12:12:49 PM
I've known a few Canadian skwidds. Good guys.

We had one onboard during a Gulf cruise. After a port stop in Hong Kong, someone bought a bootleg "South Park: the Movie" and played it in one of the berthings. That was back when it was brand-new and no one knew about the "Blame Canada" thing. Needless to say, hilarity ensued when we found out it was Canada's fault.

Cananda does not have a navy close to ours but then again no nation in the world has a real navy like we do.

Good lord Lenny, take a joke.

2001-12-07 12:20:51 PM
The U.S. has a history of ignoring Canadians.

Shortly after September 11th, 100,000 Canadians gathered in Ottawa to show support for the U.S. Not one U.S. television station mentioned it.

Then there was the famous omission of Canada as a "friend" in Dubya's speech.

Last week, the "Canada Loves New York" event took place, as thousands of Canadians visited that state in a show of support. Not one New York newspaper mentioned it.

We want to love you, but sometimes ...

2001-12-07 12:25:48 PM
Do NOT make fun of Relic's boat. You have been warned.

Timothy

But sometimes what?

2001-12-07 12:44:21 PM
"We want to love you, but sometimes ..."

Don't worry. It's nothing personal. Most Americans don't know anything about and/or ignore the entire rest of the world.
I've worked in an office on campus dealing with international students. You'd be amazed at the number of phone calls we get from students from other US states that think they are INTERNATIONAL. farking idiots.

2001-12-07 12:51:30 PM
Americans are assholes?

Doesn't feel too good, does it?

2001-12-07 12:56:09 PM
So, Canadians feel the need to be noticed by Americans to feel good about themselves? That's pretty sad. Canada's a great place all on it's own.

2001-12-07 01:08:35 PM
We Canajuns have a major inferiority complex at times. Desperate need to noticed and said hello to by others. If it doesn't happen we go all hissy. I live in Ottawa and was at Parliament Hill for the tribute. Kind of my own way for making up for the childish comments coming out of everyone's mouth about being missed out of Dubya's speech. That was not the time to pout about not being someone's bestest friend forever. freakin' crybabies.

2001-12-07 01:11:57 PM
So, Canadians feel the need to be noticed by Americans to feel good about themselves?

When I was in University there was a program the school had, were students would take American tourists out for the annual polar bear hunt in Toronto, many of the tourist where suprised that we didn't live in igloes

OK, time for me to wade into this conversation again.

Canadians are beat over the head with US culture and icons in everyday life. The fact that over 75% of TV we watch is US based makes that a fact of life. I know who wrote your Decleration of Independence from watching "Family Ties" as a kid. If I really tried I could probably name 50% of your presidents. Can any American do the same for Canadian Prime Ministers?

So we know the US probably as well as most Americans (if not better). However, citizens of the US do not know, nor do they care to know anything about Canada. I work for a software company with several American employees. None of them know the PM's name nor do they care to learn. I really don't give 2 shiats if they notice me or like me, but it would be nice to extend a little respect our way once in a while and at least figure out what we are all about.

2001-12-07 01:23:42 PM
Leonard:

Polar bear hunt? That's cool!

When my wife and I married, I began to field questions like "Does she paint her face white?" "Does she wear a kimono all the time?" "Is 'it' sideways?" and "Does she know karate?"

I wasn't much better. I expected her father and brothers to chop me up with a sword and throw me in a dumpster somewhere.

2001-12-07 01:30:33 PM
The_marq: If it bothers you so much, stop watching American shows. I'm sure Canada has something of their own.

Oh yeah- HOCKEY!!!!!!!! I'm going to a game tonight.

American Smart Bomb

RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany (CNN) -- The three US soldiers and six Afghan opposition fighters were killed Wednesday when a 2,000-pound satellite-guided bomb from a U.S. B-52 missed its target north of Kandahar. At least 20 other U.S. soldiers and 18 anti-Taliban Afghan troops were wounded

2001-12-07 01:36:55 PM
The_Marq, Can you name the heads of all 13 provincial/territorial governments and the political parties they lead ? Can you name the mayors of at least 3 major cities ? Can you tell what the last Order of Canada was awarded for ? Unless you're freakin' Pierre Berton, I doubt it. So why piss and moan about others not learning more about "what we're about" when we choose not to do it ourselves ? Ignorance towards ourselves is a greater sadness then the ignorance of others towards us....

2001-12-07 01:49:18 PM
Romulusnr,
You ignorant pig.
Canada repatriated its constitution from England in 1982.
Our Governor General is appointed by the party in power, not the Queen.
Dumb ass.

I don't understand; yer talkin' like canada is a separate country or something.

Not to mention Asscraft's announcements about militarizing the world's longest previously undefended border.

It's all part of their game plan, fellow Canadians.

They can't sustain their way of life; they are jealously eyeing our pristine fresh water, endless forests, enormous oil and gas deposits, and other valuable resources which they want, indeed, NEED to plunder to satisfy the greedy corporations that have foisted the insatiable beast CONSUMERISM upon our fragile planet and which control that country's policy, both domestic and foreign.

They must be stopped.
