All that EPA red tape was arbitrarily destroying their industry! Such onerous requirements on reporting safety hazards am I right?

Obama LITERALLY said, "drink this water" and crazy cons said no.

Amazing.

The domestic coal industry has been losing ground since the 60's. Thanks, Obama.

Oh?  Are we pretending that Obama hasn't personally led the recent effort to kill the coal industry?

That's cute.

Requiring that coal companies not destroy the environment isn't an "effort to kill the coal industry." It's an effort to not pollute the environment in which we all live.

2014-01-11 06:01:27 PM
Look, if you can't conduct your business without polluting, your business deserves to die anyway. But don't act like it's all an attack on your industry.

And if coal has been so good to the people of Appalachia, why have they not been able to be all bootstrappy and use their natural resources as a base while growing other industries to have a more diverse and resilient economy?

Not to mention if it's such a clean resource, why are they abandoning it rather than adhere to minimum standards?

Why address the well-documented position and strategy of Obama on coal if you can just ignore it by shooting the messenger, right?

What's cute is ignoring the cheap and plentiful availability of natural gas' effect on the coal industry while at the same time pretending that the environmental impacts of coal power generation are inconsequential.

Well, that just seems wise. I mean, you KNOW Obama has filled all those water bottles with chemicals that will turn Real Amurkins into commie libruls!

I think at this point it's perfectly okay to record people saying they don't want help from national services because of the president, and then going "Okay, you don't want help, you won't get help" and just leaving the area to rot. The faster people like this die out, the better our country will be.

I'm assuming it's rainwater that has collected in/on a stump, but I could be wrong.

Which would explain why there are more jobs in the coal industry in states like West Virginia than under the previous administration.   Obama really has it in for them.

The whole Kanawha River valley is really just another Bhopal waiting to happen

I lived in one of the Charleston suburbs, Dunbar, for a few years when I was in elementary school. When we moved there in 1985, the Union Carbide plant in Institute leaked the same chemical that was released in Bhopal less than a year after the accident. My family was actually unpacking the moving boxes the morning it happened and didn't realize anything was happening until we hooked up the TV.
