technicolor-misfit: grimlock1972: Of course doing all of that requires getting republicans to understand if we want nice things like good schools that give our kids educations on par with those of other 1st world countries we have to spend the money to do it right.

Republicans don't want to "do it right" or "give our kids educations on par with those of other 1st world countries."

Republicans aren't aiming for a country in which the best and brightest children can rise to the top and lead our nation to greatness. They're aiming for a country in which the children of the wealthiest ALREADY get the best education money can buy, and no other children have even half a chance to potentially outshine their precious darlings.

Republicans are for an entrenched aristocracy, not a meritocracy. Preservation of the incumbents in the nation's seats of wealth and power is their goal.

and that is what will doom this country to mediocracy.
