A Republican lacking in self-awareness? Should this have a newsflash tag?

You mean at his job. He is working for them.

He gets paid a salary, like all the rest of us, and can pay for his meals that way. Do you get to expense your meals in your own office?

A child's job is to go to school.

Not to mention the $145,391.00 in food he expensed for campaign events.

Republicans:  It's okay if WE do it!

I've resolved myself to the fact that I will absolutely never understand why conservatives pick the battles that they do.  School lunches?  A little kid getting something to eat?  This is the hill this guy chose to die on?  Farking school lunches.  Unreal.

No doubt, they'll support and double-down on any derp that comes out of one of these guys.  I just can't wrap my head around how they pick their fights in the first place.  At some point, it dawned on this guy that a poor child might get a free meal at school and he decided he was going to vocally oppose that.  The only common theme I can pinpoint is that they pick out groups of people that are likely to have the most difficulties fighting back.  The poor, children, women, gay people, minorities, sick people.  Their only consistency is that the people they choose to kick are already down.  It's disturbing as fark.

Last year a republican in my area came up with an idea - raise taxes by half a cent and that money goes to pay for school lunches and buses. Want to guess who shot that idea down without even hearing it? yep Democrats. half a cent which would cover gas and food for schools. Most school districts here are running negative because they can't afford the fuel costs. They took away the lunch share program because it was costing to much.

I'm getting sick of this tug of war in politics, assclowns can't agree on anything unless its in their party. Half a penny and poverty struck kids can get a farking meal at lunch time. Fark republicans and democrats.

They're saying what will get them votes.  I promise you, whatever is going on, this guy has no interest in anything but making people afraid of it, and telling them who they can blame for their lot in life.

This is a Republican white guy from Savannah.  Which is solidly African-American (55%), and wasn't until relatively recently.  Which means there are lots of terrified old white people there, who for the most part vote Republican, because the GOP are "on their side".  Kingston has framed this as a debate on the work ethic in America (translation: don't let those lazy, welfare-collecting blacks take any more of your money).  Believe it or not, there are lots of peckerwoods who honestly think that free school lunch is just another handout to black children whose mothers would rather collect welfare than work, and The Gummint is giving away everything to the blacks while bleeding the whites dry.

Seriously - this is so full of dog whistles, I don't know where to start.

WUSF Florida Government was the name of the program, they don't show any videos or programs from this weeks article, you probably are going to need to actually watch the show or wait until they add it to the website.

Send them the bill for a year's worth of school lunches. If they can buy a legislator they can buy a schoolkid a meal.

Why should the bankers buy those kids lunches? They're poor for crissakes and they learnin to be freeloaders from their parents. It's not as if they'll ever be clients of the bank.
