frepnog: New Age Redneck: which included an endless variety of pranks and having his bass too low in the mix on "...and Justice for All"

There was a bass recorded on that album? Who knew?

get the discreet guitar hero tracks for the songs from ...Justice.

pretty amazing, really.

Here's the whole album - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kqTcLwUYj8

Infernalist: Considering how often they encouraged their fans to make tapes of their stage shows and share them with their friends, it seems a tad bit hypocritical to say 'omfg theft' after they made it big and famous and rich.

they never STOPPED letting fans record shows.  Letting fans record shows, and letting people steal your officially released studio albums are two very different things, and you know it.

But yeah, Lars was an asshole.  Same as anyone that realized someone was stealing from them.

Want to know what REALLY sucks?  That the whole kerfluffle was set off by some asshole that stole a pre-release copy of "I Disappear" and stuck it on Napster.  Had that not happened, Lars might never have got his panties in a wad.

And the song sucks.

Infernalist: frepnog: Infernalist: vilifying people for sharing their music.

as I said, they never had a problem with people recording shows and never cared who you shared that with.

Of course not, it helped them get famous.

On a personal note, once I buy an album or pay to watch a movie, I consider it completely acceptable to download it again at a later date.

And yes, if I could, I'd download a car.

frepnog: I personally feel that Load and Re-Load should have been released as one good album instead of two mediocre ones. much like Use Your Illusion should have been. There is an album's worth of good Metallica between the two discs.

There's a few good songs on both. If they got rid of the crap and merged them into one album, it would've been slightly below black album in quality.

IMO, Master of Puppets > Ride the Lightning > Kill 'em All > Justice > Black >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Load >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Reload

mongbiohazard: Metallica? Why are we talking about them? They were great, but they haven't put out an album since 1988.

Just like there is no Highlander 2.

And no Godfather III?

zappaisfrank: I saw Metallica live with Cliff Burton twice opening for Ozzy Osbourne  in '86. I knew nothing about their music but the music press had been hyping them for a bit beforehand.

I  walked away from both shows feeling exactly the same as I did before the shows, largely because they had really crummy sound systems and the songs were just big balls of chaotic noise with no real way to decode or decipher what I was hearing. I couldn't have repeated back even one verse from any of their songs because you couldn't make out what the lyrics even were. I remember the drummer bashing away, the three front guys flipping their heads around and Hetfield yelling into the mic, but nothing distinctive emerged.

The most memorable part was at one of the shows, the crowd broke the barricade down front and security guys kept having to lift people over the top who were unconscious after having been crushed against it by the crowd. They stopped the show several times (during Ozzy's set, also) to tell the crowd to move back. It was during a July heat wave and it was over 100 degrees inside the place.

Never developed a liking for Metallica. Never saw what all the fuss was about.

well, you were the hold out, because that tour was the beginning of Metallica being the biggest metal band in the world, and a lot of it was due to that tour - when they were routinely blowing Ozzy off the stage.

If there'd been justice in the world, Cliff would have survived that accident and Lars would have been the one lost.

It's not theft. It's copyright infringement and is completely different.

Theft deprives the original owner of the item. Copying a song doesn't cease the song existing. It has created a copy of the work.

I could handle the blood and cum but the Napster deal was the last straw for me oh so many years ago...

Now even GWAR is a more credible band in my eyes and I'm not even sure what a GWAR is...

Because he was tired of being treated like shiat because he wasn't Cliff Burton?

:: reads article ::

Eh, close enough.  Besides, I thought Lars pretty much admitted to driving him away with their bullshiat.  Anyway, Metallica's loss, really.

It's been so long since I've seen them both, scenes from Some Kind of Monster and This Is Spinal Tap get mixed up in my mind.
