Should have switched to a 675.9 km sign.

~20.52?

Wouldn't stop to get 420, but would seriously consider stopping to yoink a 419.99 mile marker.

Just like the Roman empire, those markers are there, predictably, every single mile. They are there to remind you who owns you and remind you there is no hope for escape from the state and its policies, like Obamascare and sharia law.

2014-01-11 02:20:06 AM
Why...why doesn't the state make money by selling 420 signs?

FTFY. Any road sign/mile marker with an "amusing" connotation (420, 69, a town with a "funny" name (like Dildo) ) is almost certainly going to be repeatedly stolen by shiatheads.

On High Street next to the OSU campus they have all the street signs 10 feet in the air.

GBmanNC: Why...why doesn't the state make money by selling 420 signs?

Because nobody would buy them.  The actual theft of the sign adds more value to it.

Me too.  The damn bolts were so rusted we ended up having a friend get a torch and cut them off.  It took a couple days to set it up so I had to hide it in my garage.   Where my parents parked every day.  What a pain, then I still had a huge pole to deal with.  Not like I could put it in the recycling bin.

Mom found it and had the coolest reaction.  She called the city to report a missing stop sign at the corner I took it from.

It's a quotation. If Amy Ford said 'things' twice, she said 'things' twice. Complaining about the editor isn't going to help.

You get a pass on the sign typo, though.

So you changed them from a slang word for marijuana to the only mile markers in the country with .99 decimals.  I'm sure that'll keep people from stealing them.

You stole a stop sign? That's f'd up. Why not just cut someone's brake line? Kudos to your mom for some great parenting.

I know, seconds after taking the sign in a 20MPH neighborhood, an ambulance tboned a firetruck!  All because I took the sign.  I have felt so bad ever since

I have a toll booth stick from a parking garage, but it was on the ground because someone else ran through it.  i use it to fight crime, mainly because i was very drunk when i was walking home and found it.

Battery powered band saw and you are good to go. It was a biatch back in the day when you needed a hack saw. Tube cutters worked for pipes holding up street signs.

That's pretty funny actually, that the DOT has a sense of humor about it. I would want a 419.99 sign!

It had rained for days before, so we were able to work it out of the ground pole and all.  We had the option of 'discreetly' removing it.   I shoulda just done what you suggest and left half a pole :)

The intersection of Nixon & Bluitt in Ann Arbor was so plagued by photographers that they put the Bluitt sign on top.

This story makes me like Colorado even more. First for the people taking the signs, and second for the simple and goodnatured solution.

I had to do community service at the police station in a tiny town called Dalworthington Gardens(near Arlington texas) as a minor. The guy in charge was not an officer, just a city employee. Our job for the day was placing stop sign stickers over faded stop signs. On my last day as a joke I asked him if I could keep one, was shocked when he actually agreed. Just don't let one of the cops see you. She picked me up, I told her to sneak around back if the garage and threw it in the van. She wasn't very amused, but I got a legal stop sign from a police station. Had that thing for quite a few years until due to extreme circumstances I had to temporarily move in with my hoarder of a mother, her house ate it. NSCSB

The sign has been 419.99 since at least July 2013-- that's the first time I saw it on I-70 coming into the state.

Old news, picked up by a news station????

Anything not bolted down is stealable. Anything you can cut the bolts off of is not bolted down.

I never stole any government property, but a friend of mine from the high school years was an idiot with stuff like that. Stole one of those flashing yellow barricade lights and stuffed it in his shirt. Looked like ET walking down the street.
