I love how they have those big pictures of people's eyeballs being cut open right there in the article. Thank you once again, Daily Fail!

Gilligann: Her brown eyes are very pretty.

Why would she change that?

Self-esteem issues, IMHO.

/ my eye color is only slightly lighter than hers
// glad I have it; better UV protection than blue...

Guess she didn't know how to use Google, because this story sounds very familiar.

Yeah - someone could have averted all this by just pointing her to the Shakespeare sonnets about his black-eyed lady.

Or, you know, by mentioning that there's usually a reason you have to go to a foreign country to get a procedure done. And it's not because it's too safe and effective for Britain.

Agreed. I really kind of admire deep brown eyes. They look pretty, sure, but in a strong and healthy way.

Then again, my own eyes are blueish and not particularly strong. I'm not blind, but I've needed corrective lenses all my life, and will probably have cataracts in the future. At least there is proper eye surgery for that. Not the sort that apparently makes you scream.

FTA: Ms Farrell says that during the procedure she screamed and the surgeon told her not to scream as it 'could cause things to go wrong'

Holy. Shiat.

WTF?? Colored contacts are pretty cheap. The risk in wearing them is small, and if they irritate you, take them out! And if they don't have your color, you can buy a second pair when they're back in stock.

I realize that the blue might not work for her brown eyes, but surely she could find a light brown pair like she wanted.

I thought you could go from brown to blue with a laser treatment, without requiring incisions or implants? Did she just not want this to be permanent or what? If I had to guess, I'd figure the laser method is cheaper too.

The One True TheDavid: Most of the world's people have brown/black hair, brown eyes and skin that's noticeably brown. People with blue or green eyes, blond or reddish hair and pale skin are mutants. Mutants. And if you look at us "Caucasians'" histories and cultures it shows.

"Well now you've done it! Now the procedure won't work right, you'll probably end up blind! If only you'd kept your mouth shut. Honestly! Some people never listen!"

"Don't it make your brown eyes blind" would have been a better headline.

And you're an idiot if instead of just getting contacts you fly to a third-world country to have dodgy surgery.

I've looked at my own eyes in the mirror.  Many times I didn't like what I saw.  Then I got mad and mean.  Then I liked what I saw.  It looked like hippie slapping liberal punching freedom

jtown: This is why I still wear contacts instead of having intraocular lenses implanted (basically what she did except with corrective instead of cosmetic lenses).  My eye doctor, who specializes in "can you see me?" levels of vision correction has suggested it several times but I don't like the 0.01% chance of coming out even more blind than I am now.  Heck, the odds of complications are probably even lower if I'm picking the best surgeon rather than the cheapest.  And I'm a good candidate because my eyes haven't changed significantly in over 5 years.  But I'm risk-averse so I wear contacts.  Which probably have a higher chance of complications.  :)

Nice to hear about somebody else not eligible for LASIK.  Except due to eye dryness and incredibly strong blink reflex I'm stuck with glasses.  People keep recommending I go in for the laser, I keep telling them "I did, they medically disqualified me". :(

/Laser would be cheaper than glasses.

My grandmother had hazel eyes. Mine are light brown, probably the shade the lady in TFA was trying to acheive. I used to think it would be nice to have green eyes or Liz-Taylor-violet blue eyes but I like my eye color now and would never have considered surgery to change it.
