I had surgery in Panama

I think I found your problem.

2014-01-10 04:49:01 PM
While I applaud Britain having their universal health care system and that they were able to fix this, I also wholeheartedly say that this idiot should be getting a bill for it. She paid 8,000 Pounds to have her eyes farked up and then the taxpayers have to fix it- there's no way she shouldn't be on the hook for it.

And she went there and was told, "Sorry, the color you wanted was out of stock- we're going to do this other one instead," and this DIDN'T raise any red flags? Perhaps they decided that since she obviously wasn't using her eyes anyway it didn't matter if they got the surgery right...

2014-01-10 05:07:21 PM
Ms Farrell said: 'When I woke up I saw black. I panicked. I thought if my vision goes, my life will be over.'

However, the blackness she saw was only caused by the bandaged surgeons had placed over her eyes.

She's a real genius, this one.

2014-01-10 05:23:42 PM
Anyone with even a bit of common sense would know such a procedure is a bad idea. It seems quite likely that even if the implants had worked as intended, she'd have major problems with night vision as the size of the pupil openings is probably fixed at a small diameter (so as not to leave part of the natural iris color exposed in brightly lit conditions) so in low light conditions not enough light would get through.

2014-01-10 05:39:20 PM
Panama...  Slicing up eyes... sticking foreign objects in the cornea...  Yeah, sounds like a fantastic idea.

'I was so determined to get the surgery nothing rang alarm bells for me - nothing obvious.'

'When I woke up I saw black. I panicked. I thought if my vision goes, my life will be over.'  However, the blackness she saw was only caused by the bandaged surgeons had placed over her eyes.

"Now that you mention it, I do have trouble breathing underwater sometimes. I'll take the gills".

"Yes, gills. Then, uh, you don't need lungs anymore, is right"?

"Can't imagine why I would".

"Lie down on table. I take lungs now, gills come next week".

2014-01-10 06:28:07 PM
Shenise Farrell wanted to change her eye colour from dark brown to light brown so, in 2009, she flew to Central America for cosmetic surgery

She spent £8,000 having coloured discs implanted into her eyes - the brown implants were 'out of stock' so she agreed to have blue ones instead

wow... just farking wow... so many mistakes in a row... one after another... its a series of bad decisions starting with the decision to fly to panama for eye surgery.  And all this to have it lightened a shade?  and she didn't say hell no when they where out of her color?    Why is she not covered in tats?

This is why I still wear contacts instead of having intraocular lenses implanted (basically what she did except with corrective instead of cosmetic lenses).  My eye doctor, who specializes in "can you see me?" levels of vision correction has suggested it several times but I don't like the 0.01% chance of coming out even more blind than I am now.  Heck, the odds of complications are probably even lower if I'm picking the best surgeon rather than the cheapest.  And I'm a good candidate because my eyes haven't changed significantly in over 5 years.  But I'm risk-averse so I wear contacts.  Which probably have a higher chance of complications.  :)

This is the second person I've heard about this happening to. The other was a younger black lady who flew to another country for blue implants. She met the surgeon in a hotel and went out back with him in an alley or something ... they brought her somewhere else ... she was in denial that she was going to go blind while being asked questions on some talk show. She made so many bad mistakes ... and still didn't fully grasp it.

Yeah - someone could have averted all this by just pointing her to the Shakespeare sonnets about his black-eyed lady.

Or, you know, by mentioning that there's usually a reason you have to go to a foreign country to get a procedure done. And it's not because it's too safe and effective for Britain.

Agreed. I really kind of admire deep brown eyes. They look pretty, sure, but in a strong and healthy way.

Then again, my own eyes are blueish and not particularly strong. I'm not blind, but I've needed corrective lenses all my life, and will probably have cataracts in the future. At least there is proper eye surgery for that. Not the sort that apparently makes you scream.

FTA: Ms Farrell says that during the procedure she screamed and the surgeon told her not to scream as it 'could cause things to go wrong'

WTF?? Colored contacts are pretty cheap. The risk in wearing them is small, and if they irritate you, take them out! And if they don't have your color, you can buy a second pair when they're back in stock.

I realize that the blue might not work for her brown eyes, but surely she could find a light brown pair like she wanted.

2014-01-10 08:32:37 PM
I thought you could go from brown to blue with a laser treatment, without requiring incisions or implants? Did she just not want this to be permanent or what? If I had to guess, I'd figure the laser method is cheaper too.
