Try fiber. It's cheaper, more reliable, and tastier than laxatives.

Once, I happened to be reading the label of a bottle of laxitive suppositories. I warned about the possibility of dependence, and I pondered how farked it must be to be addicted to laxative suppositories.

CSB:

My uncle emigrated to Canada from Hungary in the 60s (when he was 16-17). He couldn't read, write, speak or understand English but his social worker found a Hungarian speaking family for him to stay with. He came home one Friday and there was a note on the table that they'd gone out of town for a family emergency but would be back Monday or so. He got hungry, started looking around, found a chocolate bar and ate the entire thing. EX-LAX Bar.

He said that after living in the bathroom all weekend... when they came back Monday he begged them to teach him English.

Having just gone through a "bowel prep" before surgery, I can't understand why anyone would willingly take laxatives.  Maybe the other ones on the counter aren't as bad as what they had me take (Magnesium Citrate), but it's an experience I hope I never have to do again in my life.
