"..but be cause it didn't bite her son.."

"..the snake may to be a young corn snake.."

Methinks the author of the article may to be a little slow.

Their diet of rodents and reddish splotches...
what are these splotches? is there a particular hunting season for them?

2004-01-27 05:44:40 PM
Awsh*t. Now the crazies from the church up the road will be buying all the damn potatoes from Wal-Mart.

2004-01-27 05:44:45 PM
Ok, so people that are going to get sued:

1. Wal-mart
2. People who bagged the potatoes
3. Teenager that stocked potatoes on Wal-mart shelf
4. Manager that oversaw teenager
5. Farmer that grew the potatoes

Sounds like an urban legend.

Of course they disposed of the snake before it could be identified.

Horribly written and edited article. Among my favorites:

"Their diet of rodents and reddish splotches on a silvery background has inspired the name "red rat snake."

It's great that they eat roddents and reddish splitches on silvery backgrounds, but what do the snakes look like?

Any bartender and bar owner in the vicinity.

Did anyone ask the kid how the snake tasted? He mighta liked it. I also noticed that the woman actually see the snake crawl out of that bag of potatoes. This sounds like an assumption.

I also want to recommend this article for the award of "Worst written article by a person who is supposed to be able to speak English". His friggin' editor must be smoking too much crack.

Baby bites snake!

2004-01-27 05:59:48 PM
"When her back was turned, a snake apparently slithered out of the bag. "

So she didn't even see the snake come out of the bag?? Is it possible that the snake was already in the house?

Man, this article is deviod of information on so many levels.

2004-01-27 06:00:21 PM
"She said she was told that the snake was a baby copperhead"

"The snake species was not positively identified by either Barnard or Wal-Mart."

I'll bet it was just some idiot who said it was a copperhead. It was probabally just a garter snake.

"Look maw, sumplace from home's on teh intarWeb emale! Know whut that meens? W're faymus!"

Seriously, the Register is horrible. I had an English teacher back in HS that would cite it daily for examples of what not to do. I don't know what's worse, though, that the article had so many errors, or that I skipped over all of them!

five bucks says the snake was already in the house and was hiding near the potatos when baby got a hold of it.

2004-01-27 06:07:58 PM
A bunch of baby snakes look like copperheads, including black snakes and some water snakes, but most of them aren't.

2004-01-27 06:10:10 PM
Large picture of a corn snake.

I don't have any pictures of a corn snake on the cob, but this kid must have been thinking along those lines.

For comparison:

Large copperhead picture

They do look similar enough to jump to conclusions, and I've heard that baby copperhead snakes are actually more dangerous than adult copperheads, because they release all their venom when biting as opposed to a controled amount. Still pretty scary. A copperhead isn't going to kill an adult, but an 11 month old is taking his chances!

2004-01-27 06:12:16 PM
It could have been worse, it could have been HALF a snake.

...in HALF a baby.

2004-01-27 06:15:37 PM
That is what you get when you strive for the lower prices, you hurt your quality. You know more expensive potatoes do not have snakes in them.
