Big deal. This is Marvel comics we're talking about here. What's the longest anyone's ever been dead in the Marvel universe? 5 minutes?

But then the get to come back with a new look, new powers, new mood disorders...  Ohh and they get to start counting from 1 again.  YEAHHHHhhhhhhhh(!?!)

This. I hope that, when I die, I die a Marvel death.

They quit publishing Spider-Girl in 2010, and PAD's X-Factor ended.

My favorite characters are safe.

I really hope they don't try to make him bring back Madrox for his new X-Factor to increase sales. I am hopeful that he can make Gambit a useful character in Marvel again.

Crossovers like this are why I wait until the trade books are published. Been burned before with AoA and Earth X, etc.

While I want to join in the nerdrage on this one, so far, I have really loved all of Jason Aaron's work so far, especially what he's done with Thor lately.

Hey, are you talking about...
Age of Ultron?
Age of Apocalypse?
Onslaught?
World War Hulk?

Marvel seems to do this every other year or so. Not sweating it.

You didn't like Earth X or the sequels?  I thought they were interesting.  Oh well, different strokes for different folks.

Anyway, I am in favor of killing a large slew of marvel characters and not bringing them back.  I would make a list but it would take too long.  I guess I would start with everyone whose power is too damn inconsistent like that Maggot guy.  Writers tended to be all over the place with him.  They resurrected him but he may be dead again so hopefully he won't reappear.

To be fair, that isn't something that is specific to Marvel.  Has there ever been a major super hero who died and stayed dead?

I'm reading the back issues now.  Rather amusing.  I'm pleasantly surprised.

Cracks me up every time he refers to MJ as "that Watson girl."

JayCab: spcMike: Doctor Octopus does as Spider-Man

Wait, WHAT??

Apparently in current (or recent) plots, Doctor Octopus manages to swap bodies with Parker, and then Doc Ock's body dies.   Shocked that Parker was such a humble nobody with a simple life, and tremendous challenges, Ock basically reforms and tries his best to fill Parker's shoes as Spiderman.  He had maniacal assumptions about what a tool Spiderman was, and learning the truth is the impetus for the character's changes.

Comics everybody!

JayCab: spcMike: Doctor Octopus does as Spider-Man

Wait, WHAT??

Doctor Octopus's personality is currently in control of Peter Parker's body, and has been for a year or so now.  He has, however, dedicated himself to being the hero Parker could not be, because he still has all of Parker's memories, and so became the "Superior Spider-Man".  He's basically Spider-Man if editors ever let Peter actually grow up and grow a pair.  Lots of tech and gadgets and not nearly as much of a sad-sack.  It's actually a pretty good story, but everyone knew it had to end before the next movie came out.

I really wonder if they'll ever bring back Charles Xavier.  He's been cold for a good long time now.

But yes, he's done the dead thing before.

Technically Jean Grey has been dead for a decade now (sort of).  Of course, she's running around in All New X-Men, but that's teen Jean, not the actual, adult Jean Grey.

No, they brought Uncle Ben back from the dead via an alternate universe. (He was later killed again.)

THey also onve brought back Peter Parker's parents. Though those turned out to be clones or some such.

I think it is becoming a pretty fair measurement between how many characters an author announces they will kill or retcon or take "in a bold new direction," and how much they suck.  Jason Aaron completely destroyed the Thanos character in just the first issue of Thanos, Rising.  Looks like he's taking his "bold vision" throughout the MU now.

Yeah,  Running a-puck's question is a little tricky when you're talking comics.

Plenty have died and come back, even if they're currently dead at the moment.  It's a good question - have any died, just once, and stayed that way?  I'm sure there are but I can't think of any major Marvels at the moment.

The Dark Horse Conan series killed lots of people. For good, too.

No, I really enjoyed Earth X, Universe X and Paradise X. I had a problem tracking the story across multiple titles, So I gave up and waited for the trade books to come out. Just like I bought the almost complete AoA Omnibus.

I'm pretty sure the only reason the included him in the Civil War story was to kill him.  I don't recall him being particularly notable before then.

I don't object to characters being brought back from the dead.  But I do ask that it be done well.

Fine.  Jean Grey is imbued with the very spirit of death and rebirth.  She can come back to life.

However Nightcrawler died a couple years ago and just recently decided to leave Heaven.   So he did.  He just up and left.  He's back in the X-men now.

Since that time, Bucky and Jason Todd came back.

Nonethe less, it may be true and fit your criteria. Though I suppose you added Marvel moments at the end.
