I give the over/under at 7 games (including pre-season) before the fans are calling for Gruden's head on a platter.

/nothing to do with Gruden's coaching ability; that's just how insufferable the Skins fans are

With his past success, I have no doubt the Redskins will be primed to dominate the Arena Football League in no time.

I'm willing to give him a shot, but it seems like they are hiring a quarterback coach for the head coach's job. I have no problem with Gruden being hired to handle/train RG3, but I'd like a head coach at the head coach position.

/Between Gruden and Williams for the Nats DC is in for an interesting set of seasons next year.

Be prepared for the deluge of "Gruden didn't speak to RGIII today, is this a controversy" and "RGIII passed by Gruden in the hallway and didn't shake his hand, they are obviously at war with each other".

Just glad it's not Dan Quinn. Though they weren't really looking for a Def. guy.

I think he gets a pass due to Dalton doing his level best to destroy whatever gameplan is given too him half the time. Apprently Gruden is well thought of though, yes.

Why? Hes had head coaching experience(albeit in minor league football) and was in complete control of his side of the ball in Cincy under a defensive coach. He did more than maximize Dalton's talent and help him to one of the best 3 year runs a QB has had to start a careee. Head coaches have to start somewhere. Joe Gibbs was hired after 3 years of being the OC under Don Coryell's Chargers(Meaning he wasnt in complete control) and no HC experience on any level.

Why hire a retread? Maybe a guy who had a HC gig and is still hungry for his first ring, but guys who have won elsewhere never have much success in their second go-around, including 2 of the teams last 3 hires.

Looks like Hue Jackson is clawing his way back up the coaching chain.  Hopefully he remains adamantium firm in his convictions, just like when he chose Carson Palmer as his QB.

Since this is the Redskins, it can only end badly. My guess is that he has a full on player revolt after becoming too accomodating to RG3

I'd be sure Whisenhunt told Snyder he's not interested.  I'd be sure anyone who has any other option told Snyder they're not interested.  And who knows, maybe the Pittsburgh job opens up after 2 more years of...that.

The way I hear it, Castillo's only the problem inasmuch as Gradkowski sucks the sweat off a dead man's balls (though he was a rookie) and Oher either has a hearing problem or an impulse-control problem. At least Yanda's competent...

I feel folks here give Coaches way too much credit. Most of these guys are the alpha male type who feel they can control any situation.  Besides with the money Snyder would offer a big name coach, one would be a fool not to take the money. 5 year contract only have to work 3 or 4 of those years and get paid another 5+million not to work. not a bad deal.

I have two thoughts on that:

1) Andy Moeller (the old line coach) hasn't developed a single lineman the entire time he's been with the Ravens. The last guy the team developed that was any good (Yanda and Grubbs) were on the team in 2007. That's in too of his run ins with DUIs. I'm not sad he's not the OLC.

2) Gradkowski was an abomination. KO was hurt, his backup Shipley lost the center job to Gradkowski. McKinnie was a lazy F at LT. Oher regressed AND was never really developed.

The talent to be competent wasn't really there.

And Gradkowski, despite is play, was NOT a rookie. He was a second year player who sat behind Birk last year.

I look forward to Gruden achieving a 40% win percentage, becoming scapegoated in favor of whichever star player has Dan Snyder's eye, and eventually being fired with nowhere near the coaching respect than he had yesterday.

/I'm amazed he left his cushy job to coach the Redskins.
//Actually, I'm just amazed anyone agrees to coach the Redskins.

Well, Jay Gruden DID turn Andy Dalton into a household name each year in the playoffs.

In my household, it's like, "Goddamit Andy Dalton!!  What the fark are you doing?"

Why not wait to interview Greg Roman or Vic Fangio? SF offense is very tough to defend. Their Defense speaks for itself.

Deneb81: And Gradkowski, despite is play, was NOT a rookie. He was a second year player who sat behind Birk last year.

My mistake; he just looked like a rookie. Though TBF, filling Birk's shoes is no easy feat.

And no, Oher didn't "regress" this year. They moved him to RT because it's pretty clear he can't hack it as a full-time LT, and in the 5 years he's been in the league, he's amassed the most false-start penalties of any lineman. His not being a top-flight T was exposed this year by not having 4 other competent linemen (1, 1.5 in any given game).

We could do far worse than Deaf Side, but we could probably do better with a FA. And it wouldn't be cheap. And the Ravens need a #2 WR threat and some defense (one at each level should do it) before they think about replacing Oher.

I was hoping for a defensive minded guy,but this doesn't seem like too bad of a hire. I assume it's a Bruce Allen move as Jay Gruden is in no way a splashy enough name for this to be something from The Danny.

There's only 32 of these jobs on the planet.  And.... Pretty sure the money has something to do with it.
