Jim from Saint Paul: tnpir: Nonrepeating Rotating Binary: It is my fantasy to become so wealthy and famous that Vince invites me to guest host RAW, and wants to do a back stage vignette with me, him and Triple H.

After Triple H says something, I will turn to Vince and say...

"Verne, Greg is right..."

The collective orgasm from the smarks would be loud enough to be heard 10,000 miles away.

"Did anybody else just hear a toothpaste tube empty?"

Must have been travel sized...

No, but you could have had the Global Legendary Television Title if you'd posted "Shooting Star Stapler Super Press".

Not like we're ever gonna get another TNA thread to defend that title in.

The smart marks would have missed it because they were too busy biatching about how Vince and Hunter were pandering to some celebrity no one cares about.

That particular belt has been transferred to the Pony threads, much like the Big Gold went from the NWA to WCW to the WWE's WHC.

If by "popular" you mean "barely beating WWE in the ratings despite being on free TV whereas WWE is on a pay channel."

I've been an off-and-on fan of the wrestling game for 35 years. I've commented in some of the fWc threads and am good for free streaming maybe half of the PPVs each year. And I'm absolutely gonna give Vince McMahon my $10 a month for at least 6 months, but not so much because I'm a fan of wrestling as I am a fan of this concept.

If this works, then maybe we see more robust and inexpensive subscription options become available for other properties, including "legit" sports leagues. MLB.TV is a fine product, but would it be even better if it cost less and had more archival games, programs and specials available on demand across multiple platforms? Hell yeah it would. Or the NFL? Or the NHL?

So take my $60, Vince. Just please take some of that money to make sure these guys are looked after once their days of taking bumps are over.

One last thing, if nobody has touched on it:

How in the hell are they going to get rid of every single spoken and visual reference to the WWF? And are they risking running afoul of the World Wildlife Fund if they can't?

They reached an agreement a while back that allows them to use unedited footage of the original scratch logo, the phrase "WWF", etc. All the recent DVDs and old footage they broadcast is just like it used to be.

And by "reached an agreement" I mean that the World Wildlife Fund changed their name to World Wide Fund for Nature so they stopped caring as much.

Ill handle this, because fark you that's why

Doesn't answer the question as to why this violent soap opera isn't on the Entertainment tab.

The threads do get a lot of posts, even though it's scripted homoerotic drama. I guess Drew's worried about rocking the boat.

Yawn

Meh.

Just wondering why something that is not a sport should be posted in the sports tab. I mean, I'm quite capable of ignoring those threads, as I do with all the sports I don't like.

But, American pro-wrestling is scripted entertainment. It should be in the entertainment tab.

It's here because Fark puts it here.  Really no other reason.

Plus, sports fans could use having the piss taken out of them every now and then.

Nothing does that better than fake sports and pictures from little girl's TV shows. That'll take the piss right out of them!

/enjoy your stories, fellas, don't forget Days of Our Lives comes on at 12
//one of the saddest things about sports America is fake wrestling is about 1000 times more popular than real farking wrestling...if not more
///but hey why watch a real athletic competition when you can watch people pretend to beat each other up with all those fascinating plot lines attached---I was a good guy but now I'm a bad guy!! I was a bad guy but now I'm a good guy!! Here's some hot chicks who for no reason wear bikinis to pretend wrassle!

ladies and gentlemen, an example of what I was talking about.

I never understood why you can't watch archives of NFL games through a subscription service on their website. Or any other sport. Seems like an easy cash grab to me.

2014-01-09 10:52:01 PM
The big question is - will the archive broadcasts be the real-deal originals, or will everything be filtered by WWE's notorious revisionist editing, as their DVDs/old home videos are?

I mean, they changed the damn entrance music on old WCW matches for some wrestlers to be their WWE themes. Will these shows be "as they happened" or "how Vince McMahon wants you to think it happened"?

To be fair, that's usually less of a case of "revisionist history" than "the rights to that song cost too damn much".  They did it with a lot of the matches on the ECW DVDs too, overdubbing the songs with WWE and WCW themes and stock music.  Which ECW used to do on the home video releases, as well.

I have what amounts to negative interest in wrestling (I was a big fan of the Attitude era...I was the right age at the right time I guess), but this is cool on a content provider level. If you price digital content reasonably and make it widely available (especially if you have a massive backlog of great content) it'll sell better than releasing it piecemeal for higher prices. I want things I'm actually interested in to adopt this model.

(I would almost pay for a month and rewatch some of the old classics as a guilty pleasure too)

Frankly I was just looking for an opportunity to use that gif in context. TNA is a rough watch honestly. ROH is growing on me, though I have a lot of people in the WWE who I really enjoy watching (Ziggler, Kofi, Ambrose, Bryan), so it keeps me entertained.
