So every Sport HOTY next year is going to be Petrino?  This is at least 2 great ones, I think.

I don't get it.

Too farking funny, die Petrino.

Well, they deserve whatever farking that Petrino gives them.  He jerked them around numerous times before leaving for the Falcons, walked out on them midseason, had the whole Arkansas craziness and now he is leaving Western after claiming to be committed to them.

Gotta love the stupidity of NCAA sports...

From that entry:

Return to Louisville
Prior to formally accepting the Louisville head coaching position, though, Coach Petrino requested an open tryout for internship positions in the Louisville football office. It is also rumored that he requested a motorcycle parking spot of his own right outside of Papa John's Stadium.

great, now ill never hear the end of Rick Petrino jokes.  those are two lecherous human beings but they win some games and fill seats.  disgusting.

I did not believe it either but it is just one more example of him being a lying douchbag.  Hell, I am amazed that Louisville's AD would put himself through his shiat again after the last time.

What's a fireplug and why do you need a team to do it?

Anyway, really Louisville? This guy treated you like dirt, then subsequently treated all his other teams like dirt, and now you don't just rehire him but your fans were clammoring to bring him back?

I'm glad someone already made the abused wife analogy, because that's kinda what this smells like.

Fireplugs are the youngest division of youth football, 1st and 2nd graders. They're called 'fireplugs' because with the padding and helmets, at that height that's what they resemble.

Well aware of his douchebaggery, but you can't really argue with 41-9, can you? Especially when it sounds like most of the Louisville fans want him back.

Not to defend this clown, but why would anybody believe he was committed to Western Kentucky?

None of these coaches are committed to these schools.  Why should they be?  The schools would kick them to the curb faster than you can blink if they failed to win.  So you can't be shocked they'd jump ship when their value goes up to the level of a coach for a more prestigious program.  As 4NTLRZ said above, hard to argue with 41-9.

Louisville fan here, this is dumb.

Petrino is a winner, but is also a douchebag of the highest order. I'm guessing Jurich's reasoning is that Bedford, Hurtt, and Watson are gone with Charlie, so he didn't try to to get one of them to take the job. But for him to get up and say "we need to continue the upstanding legacy that Charlie Strong instilled," then go hire the same guy that left you high and dry in 2006 is beyond dumb. Guess it's more of the devil you know versus the devil you don't.

Wtf? But they don't plug into anything! You plug hoses into them. Fire doesn't even touch the hydrant? How does that make sense? Where do you people get these terms? WHAT IS GOING ON HERE!!!!

Yes the man is a grade A douchebag, every internet troll pales in douchebaggery to this man.

If I were the AD I would only allow him to come coach at a major program if he accepts a massive monetary penalty($15+million) and forfeiture of any bonuses across said contract if he came back.

strong is a fantastic coach, of that there's no doubt, just seems like a questionable fit when strong just wants to coach and appears to hate the other bullshiat.  yet the head coach at texas doesn't just coach.  strong has never been one to embrace the booster politics (hi red!) or massive media obligations (hi longhorn network!).  what do you think the texas job is?  it's not just coaching...

Rather than pretend that as a fan I'm forced to defend this hire, I'll be honest and say I'm really torn. He's going to win a fark ton of games, I just hope he's learned his lesson. I drive past the stadium on the way to work. Jumbotron had "welcome home Bobby" this morning.

Mentat: No one, not even Western Kentucky, ever believed he was committed to that school.

The worst-kept secret in Bowling Green is that this was anything other than a grab for cash and publicity by the school.  They get their name in circulation when he signs and leaves.  His contract included a clause in which his termination fee was $350,000 higher than his salary.  They get a home game against a major school, assuming U of L doesn't pay them off to not have to play it.

To his credit he purchased an $800,000 house last April so that he could look committed.

There are $800K houses on Bowling Green? That place is a dump.

The first act of douchbaggery I remember about Petrino was when he secretly interviewed for the Auburn job while Tuberville was still employed there.  In fact, after this act became public, Tuberville stayed several more years.

Petrino would have been a classic bad guy wrestler. Escpecially the parts where he pulls the hair, the trunks, eye gouge, etc. and the crowd is going crazy and he tells the ref he didn't do it.

I love how ESPN is apoplectic over this hire.

Guess the following coach:

First job was HC at a Southern Division school - stayed two years before leaving for....

An ACC job - accepted HC job at another school, then changed his mind and left for....

An NFL HC job - left with one game left in the season (they were 3-10) his first year to accept.....

An SWC HC job - "retired" after five years due to controversy in supporting a political candidate trying to ban MLK national holiday and went to television for two years before accepting.......

A Big Ten HC job - only lasted two years (and left the school on two years probation) to accept....

HC job at a famous Independent school - stayed nine years but left after flirting with another NFL team and learning his school was going on two years probation ending up two years later as.....

HC at an SEC school that he left after five years when learning they were facing three years of probation and got a job at......

ESPN as the beloved ball coach, Lou Holtz.

Ummmm bigger school, better facilities, more exposure=bigger bonus money, oh and did I mention the metric fark ton of salary he's gonna get on top of bonuses?

Its not even close between Louisville or Texas, every single coach would pick Louisville.

What would really be classic is if Charlie fell flat on his face and Texas then goes out and hires.....Petrino!

The article misrepresents the reason he was fired from Arkansas.  It wasn't so much the fact that he had a mistress, as the fact that he hired is mistress for a sought-after position in the athletic department.

WKU made $350K on Petrino's salary this year due to a $1.2M buyout clause.  Their AD deserves a raise.
