dantheman195: s2s2s2: Looks like the governor may have been told it was for a traffic study, and that it was for a traffic study.

Why are those documents redacted?

Probably personal stuff.

What exactly is that supposed to prove? Because to me it looks like Christie's staff willingly and purposely did this to fark with people. And the blacked-out parts only serve to make it even more suspicious.

You DO know that's one of the major points here, right?

You know the "traffic study" alibi is legit because they used their personal e-mail accounts to talk about it.

No different than the Federal Government spending 3 million dollars to study cow farts, we know both were BS

Definitely legit.

"Foye and two other Port Authority officials later testified under oath that Wildstein had ordered the closures on short notice, bypassing agency protocol, and that he had instructed a bridge employee to keep it a secret from Fort Lee officials."

I mean if I was going to run a traffic study safely and responsibly, I'd do it on short notice, bypassing protocol, and keep it a secret from the officials who work for the mayor that refused to endorse me. Totally legit!

Well, in one email there is approval for 60k to a mayor, per request, to do a traffic study, and the word retaliate only appears after the study was farked with. The blacked out parts make YOU more suspicious, because the rest doesn't say this was retaliation against the mayor of Ft Lee for not supporting Christie's re-election bid.

A lot of people use google because it links to their cell phones easy. The state email system is archaic

The question should be, are these the accounts they normally use? Or were these accounts they only used for this "traffic study"?

I don't know, I want to be outraged over this... but okay so the governor of a state messed with a bridge during rush hour to punish a political rival who is mayor of the city connected to that bridge. That seems like normal political bad behavior that a human being might do... not the evil cartoonish politics like NSA spying on all Americans, GMO and hormones in our food supply that are killing us while a corrupted FDA does nothing, the systematic destruction of our freedoms, and outright destruction the country for the benefit of the wealthy and corporations. I've been really outraged about that stuff lately... that a politician messed with traffic is actually kinda comforting, because I can wrap my head around the motive.

My company lets people access their work e-mail from their smartphones. It also explicitly forbids us from discussing any work-related items on our personal e-mail accounts. I'm pretty sure the State of NJ would pay for the same system if the need for it was that great.

Why thinking Christie had no idea is stupid.

Oct-Dec 2012
Gov. Christie: "I will not stop until everyone in New Jersey has essential functions restored! Personally involved! Get me the President!"

Oct-Dec 2013
Gov. Christie: "New Jersey's 2nd largest artery was dangerously clogged for almost a week?! I'm getting to the bottom of this. What happened?"
Deputy CoS Kelly: "Routine unannounced traffic study."
PA executive Wildstein: "Routine unannounced traffic study."
PA Chariman Samson: "Traffic study."
Press Secretary Dewniak: "What he said."
Campaign manager Stepian: "Ditto."
Gov. Christie: "Okie-dokie! Moving along."

In the grand scheme of things, you're right.. the act/impact itself is relatively minor compared to many other things. It's the outright maliciousness and arrogance on display here that's getting to me. For example, the Iraq War would be an evil by orders of magnitude greater, but most of the motives behind it were honest; money, geopolitical stage-setting, etc.

This bridge thing is just dickery. Being a dick for the sake of being a dick, and that bothers me.

I like you. You often times seem reasonable. Please don't tell me you buy the "traffic study" nonsense. There's a lot of farked up shiat in those emails. For example. the traffic study they mention is in Springfield, which is nowhere near Fort Lee. The Port Authority seemed pissed people were conducting "traffic studies" without letting them know. The extensive redactions do not help their case.

Really, it just stinks of shiat all around.

Funny to see the GOP apologist trying to spin this as no big deal out of party loyalty when come time for the presidential primary, the dozen or so GOP candidates will all be using this to torpedo Christie's candidacy.

There is no direct evidence that this was done specifically because the mayor didn't back Christie, no, not that I can see, but it kinda doesn't matter does it? It's pretty clear to me that they did it to get back at the mayor of Ft. Lee for -something- whether it be for not backing Christie or maybe looking at them sideways.

Point is you don't maliciously negatively impact the lives of thousands of people over a personal grudge.

I've been corrected on the Springfield thing. I still don't see the evidence for what people are saying about this, in those emails. Since they were using personal accounts, perhaps there was personal stuff included, and therefore redacted. I'm not making declarations of guilt until I see proof. It's the American way. Those emails are far from damning.

s2s2s2: Those emails are far from damning.

There's damning in the sense that they DO show that:

-this was done intentionally and maliciously
-it was done as payback for -something-. The reason the not-backing-Christie is the bandied about speculation is because, at this point, it's the only thing coming close to making sense

2014-01-09 01:10:48 AM

dantheman195: The Bestest: dantheman195: How does the first two apply to 2 lanes on a on ramp to a highway that connects to a bridge?

The ramps in question directly impacted the US-46 and US-1/9 approaches, bringing them to a near standstill, which in turn increased congestion on the I-95 and I-80 approaches. It's a loose application, but if a prosecutor wanted to bring those charges against someone, they certainly could.

Other bridges/tunnels were also open

..which cannot be accessed by truck.. which, yanno.. carries the majority of goods in this country

A stray dog has closed lanes on the GWB, did the Feds go after the dog?

Now you're just being obtuse. A stray dog wouldn't INTENTIONALLY and MALICIOUSLY cause a delay, which is pretty much the entire issue here, whether Christie himself is directly involved or not.

Wait they stopped trucks going over the GWB? How? They just don't enter in from Ft. Lee, there were other opened routes

You do know the entire bridge was not closed right?

Two of the three on ramp lanes coming in from Fort Lee were shut down for this "Traffic Study", everything else was still open and operating as usual.

I just want to make that clear....

You are really, really good at minimizing the actions of a politician who manipulated the public (including his own constituents), causing a major inconvenience (at least) for the sake of a frat boy joke. You can say he didn't know about it, but then we can say you're a fool. These people work at his direction. I've worked in management a long time and there is no way that someone in his position doesn't have full knowledge of what his appointee's were doing unless he is totally incompetent, which I don't think he is.

The traffic jams, according to messages exchanged between Wildstein and Kelly, were a retaliatory move against Fort Lee's Democratic mayor, Mark Sokolich, who'd declined to endorse Christie's re-election bid.
According to the emails the  Record obtained, Kelly wrote to Wildstein on August 13 at 7:34 a.m., telling him, "Time to create some traffic problems in Fort Lee."
"Got it," Wildstein replied.
Kelly and Wildstein went back and forth until mid-September, when Wildstein wrote: "We are ready to do this. Can you have someone call the Mayor of Springfield and tell him that Gov has approved $60k for their traffic study."
In other words, a guy from the Port Authority is telling the governor's top aide what the governor has approved, and what he's approved will create a massive traffic jam, under the guise of "studying" traffic in a neighboring town.
Yeah. It's shady.

I can infer from your rhetoric the letters in your username stand for 'Sophistry', the laziest tier of trolling.

You are 0 for 2.

BigOle8point: dantheman195: The Bestest: dantheman195: How does the first two apply to 2 lanes on a on ramp to a highway that connects to a bridge?

Since they were using personal accounts, perhaps there was personal stuff included, and therefore redacted. I'm not making declarations of guilt until I see proof. It's the American way. Those emails are far from damning.

What's your excuse for this e-mail exchange?

Excuse? Were they retaliating for the retaliation for their retaliating?

Maybe they did do this out of spite. I have no dog in this fight. I wouldn't be voting for Christie, if he were to get the nom. I still want to see better evidence connecting the fat guy to this, before I'll say he did it.

Here is what was happening on the other side when this happened:
Baroni is Christie's stooge, running interference. "Samson" is also CC'd.

Yeah, you can say I'm a fool. I'm a big boy. You can't say you caught Christie, yet. I'm sure plenty more will be revealed, until then....

Speculate away!

Kinda spooky that that dude worried about hospice patients dying. I guess with the way we are speculating, Foye must have been in on it, too!

"Can we piss off America?" Christie seems to think they did it.

Darth Macho: thurstonxhowell: TDS went with "E-mail Chains, Lanes, and Automobiles". Not a bad headline, but I think some Farkers did better.  Darth Machohad a better not fat joke with "Jersey Turnspite". I think we can all agree that coeyagiwins for best fat joke with "Portly Authority". "The Bridges of Fattison County", from the same contributor, definitely deserves an honorable mention.

Hey, I can do a fat joke too! Umm.... 'George Washington Clogger'?

Eh, keep it topical:

Chris Christie attempted to throw his deputy chief of staff under the bus. Unfortunately, that bus was delayed by lane closures.
