This couldn't have anything to do with the fact that more friends means more peer pressure, would it?

I've seen enough 80's teen comedies to know where this is going.

It's true -- I drink, and I'm way cooler than all y'all.

2014-01-08 05:17:46 PM
Or maybe the cooler kids with more friends are just likelier to drink.

Gosh, my old man should have been way cooler and had more friends than he did.

My bands name is Overweight White Boys.

I drink but only have 1 friend.

Although, that could be because all my other friends are married and have kids.

/6 minutes 'til happy hour!

my adopted little brother, drank hard, partied hard, was a musician, and he had an almost unlimited # of friends and an amazing number of women (rapid turn over).  I remember stopping by his house one summer day to find 3 women on the couch, one standing with him in the kitchen while he was on the phone with a fifth who he was telling how much he loved her and was excited that she was going to be at the house in a week or two.   he was screwing the 4 in the house and was married to the one on the phone.  mind you he had told the four in the house that he was being monogomous with each one of them and getting a divorce from the one on the phone.   yeah he was a whole lot of crazy sticking it into a whole lot of crazy.

so yes, the drunk kids are the popular kids.

Women are attracted to self-confidence, and nothing makes me more self-confident than a fifth of whiskey.

Many don't like drunks, though. On the plus side, if you don't talk much, they will just think you are a good listener.

It's not the "bad boy" BS, it's not the "popular" thing to do or be, it's the I don't give a crap about myself or you and am seeking to see how far I can push edge of morality and safety  simply because I need to be validated by as many people as possible because I have no self image or esteem.  Good luck with that.

I'm way more interesting after I've been boozing.  And so is everyone else.  Except those guys.  I think they want to fight.  Douchebags.

Wait, what?

2014-01-08 05:49:42 PM
Well, let's see...

There's Jack Daniels and Jimmy Beam...

And my pal Johnny Walker and his brothers, Black and red...

Oh, and my dear old Grandad.

/But, I drink alone, so what would i know.

Shannon Hamilton: You see, Bruce, I like to pick up girls on the rebound from a disappointing relationship that drink a lot. They're much more in need of solace and they're fairly open to suggestion. And, I use that to fark them some place very uncomfortable.

Brodie: What, like the back of a Volkswagen?

Shannon Hamilton: No. More like someplace girls dread.

"The Popular Kid who Smoked & Drank" was the least successful ABC After School Special ever.

Or rather, if you are a teenager who can get alcohol -- lots of alcohol -- for your friends, you will have lots of friends.

2014-01-08 06:13:21 PM
As I remember it, cooler kids with more friends have more opportunity to drink and are more encouraged to do so.

/I'd guess that teens who drink more are more likely to have older siblings/friends, too

Sadly, these same popular kids learn this truth at seventeen: that love is meant for beauty queens.

Such a sad, sad song, er, story.

And then at my age you learn it is for the content, er, continent.

I didn't drink in high school or even really college.

...I didn't really have a lot of friends in either.

People who have good booze and good drugs make popular adults as well.

2014-01-08 06:32:21 PM
Kids who drank at all reported having an extra half a friend, on average, and those who got drunk reported one additional friend compared to non-drinkers.

Look, it was my first time drinking, we were in my dad's workshop, we had a little too much, there was the chain saw on the bench, I don't remember anything else.

Drinking is such a colossal waste of money.

I can't count the thousands I've saved by never taking up the habit and I'm still pretty young.

Not to mention the health benefits & complete lack of hangovers in my life.  I feel truly sorry for people who succumb to the pressure out there to start farking over their body & wallet for whatever reason it is they do.

It's called living. Saving everything, always making healthy choices etc what's the point of that ? Cutting loose, laughing, being merry and drinking with good company are some of the finest life experiences one could have. No one is saying you have to over do it but it does happen.

You could get hit by a bus tomorrow and what good is that saved money going to do you or that healthy living.

That old joke about the jogger in the park being found by a bunch of smokers comes to mind

I was never one to drink, (first alcoholic drink at age 26!) but I was pretty damn popular back when popularity was even a thing to me.

Guess I'm the exception that proves the rule though.

I think Captain Obvious needs a promotion to Rear Admiral on this one.

the ladies would swoon and the mention of his name.  he was in a "BAND"  the only steady job he ever had was when he was in the Navy, after that he couldn't hold a job and was supported by his ladies.  but they fell into his bed in groups.

Can all be done without consuming alcohol.  I feel  really sorry for anyone who needs alcohol to cut loose, laugh & be merry.

i was not aware. i have had this name since before time was measured. i am as old as the sun. go, be at peace young one. there is much to do before the great last call.

I drank a LOT because I didn't know how to make friends. You know, it seems like no matter what the hell it is, I'm doing it wrong.

They do, but not like you're thinking. The cool kids presure the other kids to join them
but they drink because they're cool.

What is cool? Rulebreakers. They break the rule and don't give into pressure. That's what makes 'em cool.

Isn't it about the quality of friends and not the quantity of friends?

2014-01-09 01:04:12 AM
Kids with things often have other kids hang-on in the hopes of attaining said things.

It has nothing to do with friendship.
