I saw subs headline and was thinking "wow, some guy made a bunch of 80s movie posters out of stained glass? that's a crap ton of work" then I clicked the link and was all "oh" and then I closed the window....

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.  Real stained glass poster would have been cool.  I might've even bough one.

/Nah, I'm too cheap.

Better yet, it was photoshopped stained glass and he couldn't even manage to stay within the limitations of the medium:

beautifuldecay.com

But I guess it's stained glass because...uh...there's like, a grid in the background, and heavy borders.  Yup, totally.

2014-01-08 02:48:27 PM
Also disappointed.

And the actual pictures aren't very good, it's as if the guy has never seen the real thing but read a description of it.

Those sure sucked.

Came to see this.  I'd have been much more impressed if it was actual stained glass art.

Ditto.  Actual stained glass takes talent.  This crap just takes Photoshop.

I was expecting Dirty Dancing, Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles...you know, the crap movies from the 80s, but they actually put the fun ones in there.  I especially like him doing Big Trouble in Little China.  Six Demon Bag ftw.

I'll join in as momentarily excited, then disappointed.  I AM a stained glass artist.  Some of those shapes can't be done.  And I have a stained glass program (which I don't use) which would do a better job.  I've done Serenity.  I should consider making these for real...

Pffft... Stained like my underwear.

True, but it can be faked with painting over the glass (like religious figures in church windows), but i've always felt that was "cheating"

All of them helpfully titled just in case you didn't know the name of the movie.

Yep.  I mean, originally, that WAS stained glass.  But to call painting-on glass, or just paintings, "stained glass" is a bit dishonest.

The first thing that jumped out at me from the article was Vaders breather grille. I dont know how you do that with traditional glass working tools (ie, no wet saw) without adding in extra linebreaks.

what's funny is that I thought if I just said "Star Wars", someone would come in and say that the poster could be from "Empire...", so I attempted to ward off any confusion and added the New Hope disclaimer.

She doesn't create 'pretty' people. This is a one shot of all the stained glass in her portfolio.

Her installation at Eastern State Penitentiary back in 2012 was particularly good.

I spent more time looking at the bottom article about people that are sexy when they pose a sexy way and don't look sexy when they pose un-sexy... I pretty much found all of the women sexy, but my mind thought " Why is she hunchback now"? I didn't care.. I would still make them smile.. and I think you know what I mean..(first time, no apologies)

The first thing I noticed was the Han Solo with a lightsabre oddity. It was as if the artist made these works based on a description he heard about the movie and a description he heard about stained glass.

STILL not stained glass.  Very nice mosaic work...  Not stained glass.  Some good fused elements in it, too.  But not stained glass.
