Because Pat Robertson is my normal go-to guy on issues dealing with science.  NOT.  While I do believe strongly in freedom of speech I think it would be super-cool to send Pat Robertson to one of those countries where the bailiff will hack off your pee-pee for denying global warming.  But only if we can get some GIFs out of it.

To use the creationists best argument, " How do you know Pat? Were you there?"

grokca: To use the creationists best argument, " How do you know Pat? Were you there?"

Being religious means you don't actually ever have to answer that question because God told you

"It's getting warmer in Jupiter, and they don't have any SUVs driving around in Jupiter," Robertson explained. "I mean, it has nothing to do with greenhouse gasses. It has to do with the axis of the Sun."

The man believes he can leg press 2000 lbs.  He thinks God has nothing better to do but sit in the clouds and fark with the weather when He gets pissy.  Consider the source.  Is he wrong for stating his ignorance, or are we wrong for being surprised by it?

"Think of how much money is involved. It's money! They are going to get a river of money," Robertson opined. "The progressives always want control. Just like this health care initiative. They want control."

Now this is where it gets interesting.  I really think it's a psychological defense.  The prospects and consequences of global climate change are so scary and so complicated, it's easier to ascribe a selfish motive to those who sound the alarm than to heed it.

Can't understand it.  Fear that it might be true.  Unwilling to consider the necessity of changing our behaviors to avert it.  So kill the messenger.

I hate to think what the Pat Robertsons of the world would have done to Noah back in the day.  "You're a fool, Noah!  Such an attention whore.  God thinks we're fine."

"It's getting warmer in Jupiter, and they don't have any SUVs driving around in Jupiter," Robertson explained. "I mean, it has nothing to do with greenhouse gasses. It has to do with the axis of the Sun."

Well that's just special.

"Think of how much money is involved. It's money! They are going to get a river of money," Robertson opined.

Now let's just sit back and consider the source on this. Think about why you know who Pat Robertson is. Pat Robertson has spent decades getting seniors on fixed incomes and dirt-poor rubes to send him money using promises of both earthly and heavenly riches in return. One of the most insanely successful hucksters in history is suggesting that someone else is bullshiatting the masses in order to get rich. I would say that he's doing it with a straight face, but he isn't. He's doing it with a wry smile, which is all the more disconcerting and despicable.

My favorite bit about Pat Robertson is from Sam Kinison

"You know if God really does talk to Pat Robertson you wonder if he ever just farks with him.
Hey Pat! Pat wake up. It's me God. I know it's 2AM. I want to go outside and check the pressure in all the tires on your car. Now add it up. It means something in the Old Testament"

Then there's that.  I guess my "psychological" model doesn't really apply to Pat, specifically.  His problem is he doesn't like competition.  Occam's Razor and all.

When will saying "the real inconvenient truth is..." stop? It doesn't matter what you believe but saying anything along those lines is just such a cliché that it makes everyone roll their eyes and stop reading.

2014-01-08 01:26:48 PM
Strange that he uses the "follow the money" thought process, although not that strange because it gets trotted out all the time.  But really, his defense assumes that there's huge money making billionaires out of college profs that run meta-analyses on climate studies, while completely ignoring the absolute, no-kidding, check-the-earnings-statements-yourself truth that energy companies are making huge bank off the "nope, the status quo is just peachy" philosophy.

2014-01-08 01:29:46 PM
Now wait a minute. We don't know if there are any SUV's on Jupiter or not. So until we do, then just shut your pie-hole, Pat.

Evolution is a scam because no matter how many times I f*ck Chim Chim that dirty monkey whore refuses to give birth to a people.

Obama's birth certificate is a scam because there are no Kenyan Witch Doctors with a specialty in Obstetrics in Hawaii.

Benghazi is a scam because there are no YouTubes in Libya, on accounta them getting clogged with sand.

Pat Robertson may actually qualify for the title of "World's Worst Human-being"

His statement is the best kind of correct

2014-01-08 02:33:37 PM
He looks like one of the Bush family in makeup.  And at this point, I'm pretty sure he's just testing his limits to see what he can get away with while still making money.

"Think of how much money is involved. It's money! They are going to get a river of money,"

Are we sure that this isn't a copy/paste of an article from the onion?  I mean the nonsensical sentences, poor grammar, horrible logic and terrible message are pretty much par for the course but not even Pat Robertson could possibly have so little self awareness that he is actually able to say this with a straight face. Right?

2014-01-08 02:36:27 PM
Yeah, people with a brain believe in man made global warming because of the money. That's why.

You have to wonder how much longer the 700 Club will be trotting Pat out on TV.  He seems to get wackier and more off the rails every year, and at some point, the folks who have money sunk into 700 Club are going to demand that the old coot be quietly locked away.

Not in a world where people hold their knives and forks wrongly. Unless he does that too. He probably does. He's such a shiathead.

Pat Robertson uses a classic proof by contradiction. His original proposition is that global warming is a hoax.

First, he assumes the opposite:

1. There is global warming.

Then he takes something that is readily verifiable.

2. There are no SUVs on Jupiter.

It logically follows that 1. and 2. can't both be right, so

3. Global warming is a hoax.

Ask the creationists how they know the Bible is the word of God if they weren't there when it was written.

I do have an opinion on this, but I'm not going to mention it because I noticed something much more interesting going on.  This guy says something debatable and nobody debates what he says but who he is.  If we remove all blatant logic fallacies from this thread, we'd have almost nothing left.
