If I wanted whale with my beer I'd go to ladies night at the Red Lobster.

dittybopper: wingnut396: I just bought tickets to Iceland last night. Lots of day trips have this brewery on the tour.  Was looking forward to trying many of their beers... but think I'll skip this one.

No, see, now you *HAVE* to try at least a sip to let us know.  It's your duty as a Farker.

We'll see if they have some left in early March.  The state dept travel site warns against bring back any whale products to the States, so I guess it is a once in a lifetime thing.  Still don't want to support killing/harvesting cetaceans.  Maybe if I was assured it was an asshole to all its friends and deserved to be harvested I would feel better about it.  Of course I really don't have a problem eating other, non endangered, wild game, so if this type of whale is not endangered, maybe its not so bad.

Dammit, I just wanted to see volcanoes, geysers, funky sky lights and Bjork.  It wasn't supposed to be a moral dilemma.

Killing whales is second only to killing elephants. Maybe we could UPS some elephants to the brewer's corporate headquarters and let them stamp out the problem. A few angry claustrophobic elephants in a cubicle den would take care of business quickly.

Seriously, stop killing whales. We are better than that.

Why? I'm not trying to be a peener, I honestly want to know. If it isn't endangered, why is it stupid?

For that matter, are these wild whales or tank farm whales?

/if the demand exists, anything can be farmed...

good luck with the northern lights I'm 0/2 now - 15 nights in total.  We were there in Feb of 2011 and it was colder in MA - have fun :)

and they are already murdering whales for food so...I think you should try the beer as well

Nuke a gay whale for christ

Is that really necessary? I, personally don't think they are any smarter than large land mammals but we've really been hard on them and continue to trash the oceans with pollution, trash and now rising acidic levels thanks to Global Warming. Add to that we've pretty much fished the oceans out and I have to say let's just give'em a break.

Yeah, I keep telling my wife it may be bust, but I'm not sure she understands how fickle that big ball of nuclear fire we are tethered to really is.  Anyway, should be plenty of other fun stuff to do, and then you know, its not work.

Hmmm.    Does anyone know of a good asian herbalist?  I am thinking of doing a Tiger Penis Stout and a Rhino Horn Porter.

Maybe they only use whales that died of natural causes.

In which case, eww.

Sea creatures are not easy to catch so any of them hunted or fished to extinction must be delicious.  QED.

I tried a steak of whale while in Iceland. It was in almost every way inferior to beef, gamey while fatty, without a pleasant taste. Also tried puffni . . .. That stuff is downright rancid.

Anyone ever drank curdled milk on accident? Imagine that feeling with with beer. Chunks, and carbonation. Oh yeah, thar she farking blows!

If you want a species to thrive, then you want to be eating it or slaughtering it for goods, I mean look at Cattle and poultry. They are farking everywhere. Close second is to be cute and relatively easy to maintain, like dogs.

/Don't actually believe this
//Still no qualms encouraging sustainable breeding of anything consumed, extinction is bad.

Caffienatedjedi: extinction is bad.

Why? That just means life is proceeding as normal. Extinction is the ultimate end for everything, you know.

The food chain.

Megafauna produce megapoops. Their dung feeds the autotrophs nutrients. The autotrophs are the foundation of the whole chain.

As we kill large animals off, the environments suffer. The Amazon used to grow, back when large animals shiat in it. The prairie was more fertile with herds of incontinent buffalo. And whale poops cause plankton and krill blooms, allowing fish to breed and the cycle to continue.

It's all freakin' connected. Also, whale tastes horrible.

5.2 percent alcohol?  What kind of crappy watered down beer is that?

2014-01-09 12:54:14 AM

Slam Bradley: I was disappointed in the beer in Iceland - every place had the required Viking (ok at best on draft) and Tuborg (ugh) but you had to look around to find anything better.  If I could figure out this life thing ever, I'd start a microbrewery there in a heartbeat

//Iceland is definitely worth visiting

Where did you go that didn't have Gull? It seemed omnipresent on my trip to Reykjavik. (And, as lagers go, not bad at all.)

Live in cold environments and you'll disagree.

How so?  Are you still burning whale oil where you live in the 18th century?

No. Whaling is no worse than hunting wild boars. You sound Greenpeace.

Maybe we could UPS some elephants to the brewer's corporate headquarters and let them stamp out the problem. A few angry claustrophobic elephants in a cubicle den would take care of business quickly.

Scratch that; you sound Sea Shepherd.

Seriously, stop killing whales. We are better than that.

Contrary to Greenpeace / Sea Shepherd bullshiat, there is more than one species of whale. Not all of them are endangered. There's plenty to go around. Whalers are not the way they were portrayed in that moronic Star Trek movie; they're just ordinary slobs with a job to do.

If you really want to "save the whales", never drive a car again. As hinted at elsewhere in this thread, the main threat faced by the cetacean order is pollution.
