Pay no attention to the hack behind the curtain. He is just trying to pump up the market for his new book about the Curse of the Hobbino, which explores the widespread belief that the Patriots will never win another Super Bowl due to their mistreatment of star defensive back Ellis Hobbs.

we won 3 times without him and lost when we did. so I like our chances (assuming we get there) if we're basing it solely on Gronk

INeedAName: Wildcard games had 3 of 4 road teams win. This weekend will see 3 of 4 home teams win - Denver, Seattle, and Carolina.

Okay, I need to ask this, what makes a NE loss a surefire thing because OMFGBRADYSUCKS but Denver crushing SD is a foregone conclusion? The three other AFC teams in the playoffs are the three teams that managed to beat Denver this year. If anything, they are not in good standing to tout how awesomefarkballs they are. NE will put up a hell of a game but both NE and Indy have been hilariously lucky in their 4th quarter "HOLY FARK WE GOTTA DO THIS OR WE'RE SCREWED" moments this season. Hell, both teams have half of their wins that are a result from them pulling off amazing last minute drives.

If you lot have an issue with New Englanders thinking they may have a shot at winning, then I hope you shiat on the bronies that they've already won the AFC championship because MANNING!!!

I don't know.  It would be more Belichick versus Manning.  It's kind of amusing that any of the Broncos' showdowns this season have so little to do with John Fox.  That guy's found the perfect home (so long as Manning is QB).

I thought the first three games of the season or so should have been losses by the Patriots.  Somehow they got wins they didn't deserve.

vladimpaler: The Red Sox fans keep trying to portray themselves as the little guys fighting the big bad Yankees. In 2004 they had the second highest payroll and spent $61 million more than the Rockies. In 2007, second again, $55 million more than the Cardinals. They went from never winning to if they don't win, someone else screwed them over.

This is not true. Message board narrative are as bad as the sports media narratives.

Which part isn't true? Because the payroll facts are facts. The comment about weird inferiority complex of Red Sox fans is certainly an opinion, but....

/go to a Yankees v _______ game in _________ and there will be Red Sox fans dressed in full regalia there just to cheer against the Yankees. Odd phenomenon.

the idea that if the Sox lose, it's because we got screwed over by someone. That's not anything new, just ask Bill Buckner.

When your team has lost for years/decades/centuries you should always act like it, and even if they start winning you should continue acting like a lovable loser lest some message board denizen be offended by your celebrating. It's in Dear Abby's Guide to Manners, Chapters 12 through 37.

I had a good post, and then accidentally deleted it.

The gist - The Chargers are suspect mentally. They backed their way into the playoffs and beat an even more suspect Cinci team.

The Colts are hungry, and I think NE is just a little too worn out to make a good run. Can the Pats win? Of course. But I'm seeing Indy as the upset here.

The other possible road win I see is the Saints in Carolina, but I think Carolina's D is playing just a little too well right now.

Hunger has almost as much to do with winning games as anything else. I think both Seattle and Denver want vindication for previous years. Teams like the Chargers don't have great pedigree or experience in the situation, and teams like NE might be a little too routine to get themselves up for this.

I honestly believe a big reason the Ravens won last year had to do with Ray Lewis' hunger to go out on top. He raised his energy, and the team raised it's level of play. Any team can have that guy, so we'll see what happens. It's why they play the game, instead of just taking a vote of who we think will win.

If anything, the Chargers have the best chance at winning this weekend for one reason: DIVISION GAME.

Division opponents are always harder, they know you and your tendencies and by god, they don't like you either. The other games this weekend are intraconference, but not divisional.

Damn those insufferable fans who were loyal to losing teams and are now happy to see them win! They should shut their faces! Bunch of front-runners, rooting for the Bruins, Red Sox, and Patriots for 30+ years just because they knew they would all win championships around the same time! What gaul!

there we go, now this weekend will be a fair competition in the eyes of the football gods

Anyhow, this prediction by the curly haired boyfriend is just plain stupidity. Seriously, Indy beat Denver, San Fran, and Seattle this year, didn't they? I didn't follow closely enough to know if there were extenuating circumstances for those wins (injuries, etc) but I'm not sure how you can count them out and say it will be a Patriots rout.

BunkoSquad: people outside New England read CHB and think he speaks for us when locals generally hate him with the fire of a thousand suns.

Let me be the one millionth Boston native to say CHB is a total hack and something of a troll, so pay no attention to him.

Now, the Colts actually scare me a little, only because they've put together a couple road games this year where they were strangely dominant on both sides of the ball (@ SF and @ KC come to mind). I think the Pats win, but the Colts have demonstrated it's possible for their usually soft defense to actually show up and for Donald Brown to go absolutely apeshiat.

Every fanbase is some mixture of homers, assholes, frontrunners, and the occasional reasonable person.  When the team sucks, the homers have to come to terms with their team sucking, assholes shut up, and frontrunners stop caring.  When the team is good, homers become cocky and obnoxious, assholes open their mouths again, and frontrunners reappear.  The people don't have to change, they just have to react differently in different circumstances.

On a related note, God help us all if the Browns win a Super Bowl.

Pick your half for the defense to show up. The offense shows up as long as Pep doesn't insist on his power-o, 6 linemen "0 yards up the gut by Richardson" formations. When the Colts have been playing 3 wide with no fullback, the offense hums really nice. As a Colts homer, it pains me to say this, but the game is little better than a coin flip with the nods to NE.
