That's a pet peeve of mine - people who think that communicating via text or twitter gives them an excuse to throw grammar completely out of the window.  If it doesn't fit on one tweet or text message when written out properly, continue it in a second.

My mom does it all the time, but she's always been a bad speller anyway. I used to correct the spelling mistakes on her grocery list when I was 10.

I've seen the bumper stickers.  I don't accept it.  Either don't ride in heavy traffic, keep a wide berth from cars, don't ride at night, or do something else that doesn't violate noise ordinances.

I'm on board with the 'check twice for bikes' stickers though, good advice for not hitting anything.

I think there's a difference between loud pipes and then whatever you call the motorcycle equivalent of a fart can muffler.

Also don't be a douche and make it as loud as possible at 3 am on a quiet neighbourhood street.

Sadly that's just douchebaggary. Even stock bikes are loud when you rev them. In my experience it's the mosquito crowd at night tho.

That too.  I'm not saying a Harley has to be as quiet as a Camry, but it should be so loud as to cause ear pain when driving by as many do.

Mustang GTs, Camaro SSs, Challenger RTs, etc, all have a rumble in their stock configuration that's clearly audible, but not painful.

The guys running muscle cars on the street with straight pipes, Civics with fart cans, and diesel pickups with EGR deletes deserve tickets just as much as the loud bikers.

If I'm inside my house with the windows closed, music blaring, and I can't hear a single car or even a car honking but I CAN hear your farking bike, then your bike is too damn loud.

As long as you aren't the asshat circling my neighborhood just for fun at 2 AM it's fine. One of my neighbors let that guy know it was a bad idea, his12 gauge made less noise than that bike. Good road manners goes further than loud pipes.

putting your foot down while dirt biking is fine, putting your foot down on a street bike, not so great/safe, except of course when coming to a stop.

i wonder if it is because bikers kick other vehicles.

Loud pipes save lives without question. Lots of deer around here. They're no fun to hit on a bike at 50 mph. While not foolproof, the deer will most certainly try to gtfo the way.

Even with loud exhaust systems, when a motorcycle approaches me from behind, I can't hear them till they get really close.

Flashing headlights, on the other hand, I see from a mile away.

Wouldn't it be better to just mount an air horn or something on the handlebars? So you don't have to ride around all day like a giant douche making a bunch of silly noise that makes people pretend to "not see" motorcycles when they pull out in front of them?

I've been startled by them even when they aren't near, when they rev up.  As for being able to hear, that goes two ways.  I've literally had ear pain from sitting at an intersection next to a bike and there is no way that biker heard me- he probably wouldn't have heard me even if his bike wasn't running; that level of sound damages hearing.  It is also loud enough that other people like pedestrians may not hear other, closer vehicles.  As for safety, he was wearing one of those fake 'this technically qualifies as a helmet' helmets, so I'm thinking he was just an a$$hat who liked being a 'rebel'.

I can understand the motivation behind the motorcycle law, although it seems horribly misapplied here.  What I don't get is the motivation behind the law at the end of the article.  Why is it illegal to have your car parked with the window lowered?
