Thanks for the thread, subby. I had no idea this was on until just now.

For those in the US, it's on the BeIN channel, which I suspect few of us get...

2014-01-07 02:55:02 PM
I have a horrible feeling that this will be a "typical" Utd performance: give up an early goal against the run of play, huff and puff for the rest of the game, lots of possession without ever threatening the Sunderland goal.

It's been a long season already.

At this point, you have to wonder if Zaha's done something so foul, he can't go to the media and beg for playing time. I don't think he's spoken about his being benched without playing time every damn match.

2014-01-07 03:03:06 PM
Woohoo I can watch this game

Apparently Fergie's in the audience wearing a ridiculous hat, at least according to Eurosport. Has anyone seen it?

It looked OK to me, but the person next to him appears to be fearing a fur-covered truck tire.

Also, what is wrong with Utd's passing today?

Moyes does not want the distraction of a League Cup run.

Young's not in the team or bench right now. He doesn't have the inspiration.

United doing their typical great build up with no end product display.

Am I the only one who wants Kagawa to continue riding the bench just so I can continue to be entertained by the Evil Kagawa twitter page?

I found out from my old coworker who happens to be English that the only reason the League Cup exists is so that the FA could force clubs to get floodlights at all the stadiums.  They needed enough midweek/night games to justify the expense for the clubs and viola, the League Cup was formed.   Totally useless in my opinion, especially considering no other league has two tournaments, but I guess United need to try to win it.

2014-01-07 03:23:38 PM
Bummer, thought it was legit, but it was correctly ruled out.

2014-01-07 03:24:58 PM
Also why haven't we had a transfer thread yet? The window is open people!

Man U. - nobody of importance will sign
Chelsea - will sell Mata, de Brune and Luiz, sign some random 16 year old
Man City - will sell J. Lescott, might sign Iker Casillias
Arsenal - will sign Jackson Martinez
Liverpool - will sign Real Madrid's wonderkid striker on loan
Spurs - will languish in depair
Everton - will try to buy de Brune and fail

Any other thoughts?

2014-01-07 03:25:30 PM
At least my Arsenal is out of this comp, we don't need any more players getting broken.

If by Real wonderkid you mean Jese, he's not moving. The kid's golden right now, and he's crediting Zidane for his run. Morata I can fathom loaning out.

Yup. Have they even tested the Sunderland 'keeper yet?

Ugh. Knew I was gonna miss something by purposely avoiding the first half, but it was so close to going in level.

Go Sunderland? I guess.

socalnewwaver: SUNDERLAND GOAL!!!`

And as usual, Evra is hopelessly out of position (he is diligently marking the penalty spot, if you are trying to find him in the replays.)

Also, Cleverly has been about as much use as a chocolate teapot in the first half. Giggs looks like he needs a comfy chair and a blanket. Carrick has been listless and too deferential to Giggs. Even Valencia has been slow and timid.

In fact, the only player out who looks like he deserves or desires a Utd shirt is Januzaj.

2014-01-07 03:46:54 PM
What was the last time United were 7th in the table this late in the season?

2014-01-07 03:50:34 PM
Goal's been credited as a Giggs own goal. Appropriate for United.

I don't know anything about the footballs except that I think Iron Maiden supports West Ham, so go West Ham!

Put it in the record books. Oldest player to score against Man Utd.

They almost put themselves down to 10 men as well, just to add to their own misery.

I think that was Rafael's inner Fabio in that play.

Moyes makes a brilliant tactical switch, expertly deploying his substitutes.

Oh wait, no he doesn't. He makes two like-for-like changes, and does nothing about the fact that Welbeck has been the Invisible Man today.

If Moyes knew what adapting to the opponent's gameplan was, United wouldn't be where they are this season.

Did you want him to put n a striker when Evens got hurt?  And possibly Fletcher takes more defensive responsibility that Cleverly leaving the other midfielders freer.  But I don't know.  My stream is fuzzy.

United, if you can manage to lose this game to Sunderland and manage to scrape a top-four finish at the end of this season, your transformation into Arsenal will be complete.

All you need is more injuries.

This tie is two legged, so the Cats have to go to OT, to face a United squad who will probably have a number of personnel back in the fray and attack this with all guns blazing. Still, Moyes' team selection is baffling really.

Have you seen Moyes when United play there. The man is inspired when it comes to losing in Old Trafford.

United loses three games in a row for the first time since 2001.

Moyes wants to go for all the records, don't he?

good on you, sunderland
