And Marshawn is going to match their donations and give it all to a charity.  So the story ends up being, "lots of people in Seattle donate to a (hopefully) worthy charity."  So let's all get outraged!

I submitted this with a much better headline.

I see the article mentions that the fine he pays goes to charity, but nothing about him matching donations. If the money raised goes to charity great, and if he does match them, even better.

Which is awesome, but fans are still dumbasses for trying to pay his fine.

Agreed that it's ridiculous that people are trying to raise money to pay the fine, er - pay him back after the fine is deducted from his next check(s). If you think he was unaware that it was against the rules to deny media access, you're an idiot. He finally got caught/narc'd out and this is the price.

I'm glad he's doing what he is with the cash raised, though. That's a good move.

Player fines go to a few charities and, most notably, the NFLPA pension fund. The League itself receives no revenue from fines.

I see lots of Hawks fans who don't really know too much about football, or "their team" really.

I see a crap load of Russell Wilson jerseys in the office on Fridays on people who aren't really sure who the Hawks are even playing that week.

I don't wear a jersey of my favorite team, but MY standards for if someone should wear a jersey or not would be if they can name every starting player on (minimally) the offense. A genuine fan knows that. Most all should know every guy on the field- both O and D.

Because, what fan doesn't know their teams roster?

El Brujo: Because, what fan doesn't know their teams roster?

Virtually all fans anywhere. Especially when there are 53 players and injuries to factor in. People have lives, too.

Hell, I'm not sure I can name the Seahawks' OL starters at this point. I can name who SHOULD be there, but I don't always have time to check back on who's healthy and who's injured this week.

/also don't know the DL starters, but I could name everyone in the rotation so I think I'm okay there
//also knew Jeremy Lane before everyone else was talking about how awesome he was at ST and before he was a spot starter at CB
///we got him by losing to Arizona in Week 17 a couple years ago - the loss moved us up in the draft; we traded down to where we would've been if we'd won and picked up two picks for it

THIS.

Besides, if you want to point fingers, go with De Smith. As much as I dislike Darth Goodell, he has done little farking of the players and fans compared to De Smith. Fines and how they are handled was railroaded through by that flaming coontwaffle basically without a much besides cursory glance by the actual players.

El Brujo: Because, what fan doesn't know their teams roster?

Most fans only know the guys who touch the ball (or get near it). So, quarterbacks, runningbacks, receivers, kickers, and maybe some defensive backs. OL, DL, linebackers are anonymous unless it's a hotshot DE who gets a lot of sacks or something. And to hell with special teams -- they know the returner and that's it.

It's not like he got to overrule the rest of the NFLPA. I get that the NFL needs people to talk to the media to help fulfill their obligations to them, since the media pays a ton of money. But no one cared about Lynch not talking all year. $50K for not talking and $20K fines for headshots. Nice priorities, "safety is important" NFL.

People who aren't good with memorizing names?

Personally I suck at remembering names and have to make a serious effort to remember the name of anyone I don't interact with regularly, and even then I will have temporary recall issues quite frequently. Heck, right now it just took me 8 seconds to remember Tom Cruises name. I could picture him in a dozen different films in my head and still not recall his name in under 10 seconds 1/10th of the time, and he is one of the movie stars I have the least trouble with. I have sat around for a minute trying to remember Bruce Willis and The Fifth Element is one of my favorite movies. So recalling a large number of players on a sports team, even my single favorite team and the only one I follow regularly, is very hard for me.

So, that being said, off the top of my head in the order I recall their names, 10 minute time limit.:

Russell Wilson, Michael Robinson, Marshawn Lynch,Chris Maragos, Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Steve Hauschka, KJ Wright, Kam Chancellor, Red Bryant, Brandon Mebane, Russell Okung, Ricardo Lockette, Sidney Rice, Golden Tate, ChrisAvril, Chris Clemmons, Doug Baldwin, Robert Turbin, Christine Michael, Clinton Mcdonald, TonyMcdaniel, Luke Willson, Zach Miller, Jon Ryan, Breno Giacomini, Bobby Wagner, Jeremy Lane, Derrick Coleman, Lemuel Jeanpierre.

That is over half the team, given more time I could probably come up with a few more, but it was definitely slowing way down near the end there. And as an example of my issues, I know I know the name of our pro-bowl center, I just can't come up with it to save my life right now.

So am I a fan or not? If my memory is holding me back from naming the entire offense does that really make me less of a fan? Doesn't seem fair to me to base it on something like that.

I live/work in the Seattle area, and I have a coworker who claimed to be a big Chiefs fan during the regular season.  (She's originally from Kansas.)

OK, here goes. You have to trust me that I'm not opening any other windows or otherwise looking it up. Current 53-man roster only -- no IR, PUP or suspended players.

Offense (25): Unger, Carpenter, Sweezy, Okung, Giacomini, Jeanpierre, Bowie, McQuistan, Bailey, Z.Miller, Willson, K.Davis, Tate, Harvin, Baldwin, Kearse, Lockette, Walter, Wilson, T.Jackson, Lynch, Turbin, Michael, Robinson, Coleman.

Defense (23): Mebane, McDaniel, McDonald, Bennett, Hill, Bryant, Clemons, Avril, Irvin, Mayowa, Wagner, Wright, Smith, Morgan, Sherman, Maxwell, Thurmond, Lane, Shead, Simon, Thomas, Chancellor, Maragos

Special teams (3): Hauschka, Ryan, Gresham

I seem to be missing two players. Probably a safety (was someone signed to replace Jeron Johnson when he went on IR?) and maybe a rotational defensive lineman has slipped my mind.
