Damn: 42 years already. Sounds like they could do a lot to improve the sanctity of marriage.

No.  No she didn't.

"No rings, no bridal dresses," she added. "Maybe we'll be dressed like chickens."

edmo: Damn: 42 years already. Sounds like they could do a lot to improve the sanctity of marriage.

Indeed.  They could certainly teach a thing or two to the "family values" guys who are cheating on their third wives with their barely-legal mistresses.

Sounds like they've found happiness.  Good for them.

Congratulations to one of my favorite old school comedic actresses.

I don't understand how, but the fact that she preferred the ladies never even dawned on me until I heard her being interviewed by Jesse Thorn last year, where they alluded to it as if it were obvious.  Was it just me?

Anyway, good for her. Forty two years!

/kinda makes the Moment By Moment poster even weirder though, doesn't it?

Oh, make no mistake, out traditional marriages are doomed.

Because happiness is an opposite gender based, zero-sum game, and "their" numbers are rising.

Hehe. I still reference her 'we're the phone company, sir' skit at the office. Especially when someone leaves their phone logged in after hours.

My straight marriage was the same way.  As the opposite gender's happiness increased, mine decreased.  She was perfectly happy not farking me.

I had no idea either.

I'm not terribly surprised.  I'm not shocked.  I wasn't really holding out much hope that she would ever sleep with me.

It actually had me worried for a moment until I saw "Spiffy" instead of "Sad".  For a brief second I thought maybe this was a death headline.

Yeah, I'd never heard it either, but this surprises me about as much as when Freddie Mercury came out.

I wonder how many uptight Righties laughed at her skits and movies and are now appalled that she's one of "them"?

She managed to slip a joke about into one of her comedy albums from the 70s. Something about movies not being real and just because she plays a straight character doesn't mean that she is one.

Be serious.  I knew Freddie Mercury was gay before I knew what being gay was.

And that's why it didn't surprise me at all. I had never given it any thought, and wasn't actually surprised in the least. Besides, Mercury is a newbie... I knew Liberace was gay before I even knew what gay way.

This kinda thing is always bittersweet to me. I keep thinking about all the entertainers I knew about while growing up in the '60s and '70s. So many of them were obviously gay, but with a "wink and a nod" they could never just come out and be themselves. Paul Lynde, Jim Nabors, Lily Tomlin, Charles Nelson Reilly, and of course Liberace.

I caught a Liberace bio on YouTube the other night. He goes to great lengths to talk about: "Many people have asked me why I'm not married". Most people watching that at the time were shouting in their heads "BECAUSE YOU LIKE MEN!!", but nobody could just come out and talk about it. And if they did, it was a way of mocking him.

What a weird world.

My guess would be Zero would be appalled. I believe this has been rather well known or rumored and besides she is "hollywood" so it was sort of accepted by the right that some of them are different.

I dunno, some people follow celebrities and if they do one thing right or wrong it can make or break them in their public view.  Like I said I'm not surprised, but I did have no idea.  She is no longer the wholesome lady from her telephone operator sketches on SNL.She's  now that lesbian who made us laugh so much in the '70s.  I'm okay with that.  Others will just hate her because she's gay.

No one watched Ellen Degeneres honored at the Kennedy Center for the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. I guess Lily Tomlin really came out then, not that it was a secret. Jane Lynch, Sean Hayes, a lot of  the out out Hollywood homos spoke that night.

Not all straight people are caught up in who is gay and who is not.  Most of us don't even care.

That's really nice.  Good for them.

Saw her perform a couple years ago - awesome.  At one point, she sat down on the stage and put her ankle behind her head - limber gal.

I don't believe the Kennedy Center Honors is aimed specifically at gay people.  I even think a few straight people have won the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

I watched the Carol Burnett ceremony a month or so ago.  The ceremony could have used More Carol Clips and Less Speeches By People That Didn't Work With Her And Aren't Funny.

Congrats to them!

I am beginning to think that I am pretty much the last hetero person left on earth....
