Paul Broun truly mystifies me.  How can a man being an actual, licensed medical doctor and at the same time claim evolution is a lie? Evolution via DNA transmission forms the  basis of all modern biology.  How could you possibly be a competent doctor if you reject it?  Does he think Tay-Sachs and Sickle Cell are "just bad luck?"

I think a brilliant plan would be for Georgia to finally rid itself of that cesspool of yankees, homos and THUGS known as Atlanta.  Once those welfare queens who steal money from the hardworking citizens of Elijay are kicked out of Real Georgia, then Georgia can remain red forever.

A Georgia Republican playing to the redneck racist core? Heaven forbid!

Assuming there are still people left in the Republican party or in conservatism in general who are not complete douchebag wastes of skin, why do they still want to stand up and be counted with a movement that is clearly in the hands of the worst kind of people at this point? Is it really worth the 3% on their taxes or the assurance that someone in Washington loves the baby Jebus to be counted among these despicable human beings?

this is the most interesting part for me. It would be "morally wrong" to let brown people vote. hmmmm...

Tay-Sachs is a Jewish disease, IIRC, so I think he wouldn't care about either, really.

How's that Latino outreach coming there, GOP?

The field for Georgia's senator this year is insanely large on the Republican side. It's an even crazier version of the Republican field for the White House. Learning nothing from the national race, they've scheduled a large number of debates across the state so they can out derp each other. Meanwhile the Democrats have pretty much come together in favor of Michelle Nunn (daughter of longtime Georgia senator Sam Nunn). She's doing pretty well in fund raising and won't have to spend money or effort in the primary like the Republicans will. Probably still won't win but it's going to be an interesting race with the Republicans spraying each other down with so much mud people will mistake them for a 4x4.

As for governor, the incumbent Republican is being primaried and the Democrats are likely to put up Jason Carter, grandson of Jimmy Carter.

I suspect it's largely the result of people who know theory and practice versus those who only know practice. I know many medical professionals who have taken it upon themselves to learn theories behind how and why diseases or disorders do what they do and why the treatments they prescribe for them work. I also know several medical professionals (not to stereotype, but mostly surgeons; these are my personal experiences though and not necessarily indicative of these professions) who only know how to do treatments without really appreciating why you do X for Y. The former tend to be much more active in medical research than the latter, as research really requires a good understanding of theory in order to do well.

Put another way, you don't really need to know about (for example) comparative homology in order to know you prescribe a z-pak for most patients who present with bacterial infection. It's a variation of the Salem hypothesis: people who work in "the real world" (as opposed to the theoretical world) tend to be much more susceptible to believing in beliefs that are epistemically unjustified, because they never got (or rather, were less likely to have received) an education that included understanding the importance of theory.

"It only helps the Democrats if we legalize all these illegal aliens in this country who the Democrats want to put on federal welfare programs - and actually, they are on federal welfare programs today"

So the Dems want to put them on  welfare, and they're already on welfare today.  How is that possible?  If they're already on welfare, how will putting them on welfare again (?) make a difference to them?  If they're already on welfare, well, it's fait accompli that they're already in the bag for Dems, so why would they be put on welfare again?  Most importantly, they're not citizens, so they can't vote, so what the fark are you talking about?

It seems really hard to believe that eight years of advanced education - the minimum required for a medical doctor - never presented any information on evolutionary theory and its relationship to disease and medicine. I cannot believe the AMA would endorse such schools, but then we keep hearing about these crazy doctors who still have their licenses to practice.

Trying to get a Driver's license in GA is totally, utterly absurd now., To get one you need:

1. Birth certificate or passport
AND
2, Social Security card
AND
3. TWO items showing your residential address such as utility bills.

And it's "to keep the terrorists from getting ID's". Yeah, buddy, sure it is. Assholes.
