In order to remove the nail, doctors performed a craniotomy,

Popularized by actor Bob Crane in a Scottsdale hotel in 1979

I thought "-otomy" meant you removed a part of the body. If you put it back shouldn't the procedure be called something else? I would think a craniotomy involves the use of a guillotine.

According to this:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_surgical_procedures  "surgical incision"

I thought you were right, so I looked it up.  Learned something new!  Calling it a day.

One summer back when I was a house framer, a guy on the crew nailed his hand to the top of a header while on a 10 ft stepladder. Of course, he and I were finishing up the punch list so there was only the one ladder and no one else around. So I had to climb up that ladder in its awkward position, which he was already at the top of (which is the reason why he nailed his hand in the first place) and pull that nail before we both fell off the precarious ladder and he tore his hand open. I'm glad to say it all worked out. He got a tetanus booster and was back at work the next day.

But man, oh man. That was no fun.

Luckily for him, it went under the brain.

I'd rather take a nail to the head than deal with auto-play videos.

Did that to myself on a ladder 20' up.  I nailed my index finger to the house behind the fascia board as I was putting it on.  It was my own house I was working on and about 8 at night so no one else was around.  All I could do was pull hard and try to not fall off the ladder.  I took a nick out of the bone and messed up the nerves so I don't feel the end of it anymore.  Had one where the nail bounced off something and ricocheted into my palm, that wasn't too bad.  Worse one was when kid from the votech school shot me with one by accident.  3 inch framing nail went through my palm and hit me in the chest.  I avoid framing nail guns as much as I can now.

You're thinking of -ectomy. Vasectomy, appendectomy, and such
