Seeing the picture of people walking through trash-caked alleys it's not that hard to understand how terrorists could gain a foothold in places like that. Whether it's wise or not, when you're living in a shiathole which has been farked over by decades of dictatorial rule and then poorly conceived/managed invasion by a foreign power - anyone who promises, with the stubborn fervor of the religious fanatic, to fight to bring order and improve the world is going to usually find a pretty receptive audience.

It says something about society that some people are more interested in the return of a cartoon series than real life issues in the Middle East, or whatever the article was about.

the middle east has had issues for 1,000s of years and will continue long after all of us are gone.. so we celebrate the return of a rare cartoon series

I miss this:

photos1.blogger.com

One of the few animated series on MTV to get it right. They used real life stories to augment the fictional ones. That means I finally got to see a real Goth character on TV, even if she was animated ("real goth" meaning one of her favorite bands is Dead Can Dance, she hates the people who actually believe they're vampires, and despite her exterior she still has flaws like the rest of us).

/sighs, I miss MTV Downtown

Why the living crap don't series release the most recent seasons until it is just slightly too late to netflix/buy/whatever them and catch up?  I see this all the time and it baffles me.  Does it not make more sense to have as many people up to speed as possible?

It's a marketing strategy, they make money on rush sales rather than long term sales. Understand that when a company like FX makes a DVD they get their profit from rush sales to big box store distributors. Distributors then depend on rush sales to big box buyers such as wal-mart or target. It's wal-mart or target who then rely on long term sales for their profit, at which point FX and distributors don't give two shiats.

I think part of it is that it allows you to get more bang for your promotional buck. I mean commercials and print ads for season 5 can talk about how season 4 is now on DVD. And on the display for the DVD at the store you can have a sign that says something about the premiere date for season 5. Plus all reviews for the dvd will typically mention the new season and vice versa. That sort of thing doesn't really work the same if the DVD was released in September.

yep, that's all part of rush sales... it helps drum up demand so that initial sales are stronger...

In all fairness a big part of the reason that Clerks: TAS didn't last was because Kevin Smith took ABC's offer of more money instead of a different offer from UPN. The UPN offer was for less money per episode but with the ABC offer there was obviously more risk involved since the rating expectations would be higher and it didn't really fit in with the rest of their programming (Who Wants to be a Millionaire). UPN had shiat all on back in those days to the point where something with a devoted fan base like Clerks probably could have gotten at least a full season.
